“You don’t know him,” she mumbled. “Listen, if you don’t have a job to get to, that’s not my problem, but I do. Just drop me off at work and no one will have to know about it.”

“Why do you think that I have no job to get to?” he asked.

“Because don’t you just hang around that ratty club of yours? I mean, you didn’t seem to have anything better to do than to babysit me, so I was assuming that you had nothing better to do.”

He chuckled, “I don’t work for my MC,” he said. “I volunteer to be the club’s enforcer. But my job isn’t far off the mark from what I do for my club,” he said.

“What do you do?” she asked, seeming suddenly intrigued.

“I was in the military, special forces, but I got out and well, I could tell you what I do for a living now, but I’d have to kill you.” Luna laughed until she seemed to realize that Demon wasn’t laughing at all.

“What exactly do you do?” she asked. “Do you work for the CIA or FBI or something?” she guessed.

“Nope,” he said. “But you’re getting warm. I still work for the military,” he admitted, “just not as an enlisted soldier. I’m not sure that I even exist in their system if anyone tried to look me up.”

“You’re a spy?” she asked.

“Now, you’re getting hotter,” he teased. “I’m the guy that they call in to do jobs that no one else wants to take. Or I take the jobs that have to be done under the radar,” he said.

“Wow, your job is a lot like your volunteer work at your MC,” she breathed.

He laughed, “You make it sound like I’m volunteering down at a soup kitchen or something, Luna. What I do for the Royal Bastards, down at Savage Hell, has very little to do with helping people,” he admitted.

“Well, if you’re worried about breaking your promise to help me, don’t worry about it. I won’t hold you to your promise to my brother,” she assured.

“Can’t do that, Luna,” he said. “You see, your brother is my brother too, and my word is my bond with him. I won’t betray his trust just because his sister is a brat.”

“First off—eww,” she groused. “You and I are not related. I don’t remember you in any of the family Christmas photos.” He wanted to tell her that it was a good thing that they weren’t related, especially since he had the urge to spank her ass red and then fuck her until she was a little more compliant, but he kept that to himself.

“And second—I am not a brat,” she shouted.

“Okay, well, you’re acting like a brat now, so—” Luna made a humphing sound and crossed her arms over her ample chest. Demon wasn’t sure if he was going to enjoy his time with the little vixen or hate every second of it.

Demon took Luna back to his house. He thought that it might be for the best since he knew his security system and he had enough weapons to make up his own armory. He was going to have to call his boss to let him know that he’d need the next couple of days off until he could figure out what to do with her. When he usually helped out Savage or one of the guys at the club, he’d find a safe house and hire a couple of guys to guard whoever needed to be hidden away for a while. But there was something about Luna that had him wanting to take on that task himself. The thought of putting a couple of the club’s guys on Luna made him angry for no good reason, and until he could figure out why, he was the one who’d be keeping an eye on her.

She had pulled her long dark hair up into a messy bun just before he pulled into his driveway and damn if she wasn’t just his type. He needed to keep his dick in check and remember that she was Joel’s baby sister and way too young for him. As soon as he parked and cut the engine, she opened her door and jumped down out of his truck. At first, he was sure that she was going to make a run for it, but then, she just looked around and then back at him.

“Where are we?” she asked.

“My place,” he said.

She smiled into the truck at him and God, she took his breath away. “Well, I usually require a guy to buy me dinner or at least a few drinks before I go home with him. You have any booze in there?” she asked nodding to his house.

“No,” he lied. “I don’t, and even if I did, it’s not even ten in the morning.” He got out of his truck and grabbed the bags that her brother had given to him for Luna, trying not to notice the dirty look she shot him.

“You had time to pack some stuff before your brother brought you over to the bar?” he asked.

“No,” Luna breathed, “my big brother took it upon himself to send a few of his guys over to my place to fetch some of my things for me. I’m probably going to have to wash their greasy paw prints off of my clothing.”

“You don’t give anyone a break, do you, Luna?” he asked.

“What do you mean?” she defiantly asked, following him up to his porch. She waited for him to punch in his security code and then walked past him as he held the door open for her.

As soon as he got into the house, he re-secured the house and turned to face Luna. “What I meant by that was that you’re kind of a bitch to everyone—including your brother who saved your ass today.”

“You don’t know me,” she spat, “and you have no right to make such accusations about me.”
