Page 17 of Monstrous Truths

I don’t know what to say to that, so I remain silent, and after a moment, he lets me get back to my work, but something shifts inside of me. The fear I was carrying for the big monster disappears, despite the fact I try to hold onto it. Maybe it’s because I realise we are so similar, or maybe it’s because I don’t know why I feel drawn to him either.

“Why did you save me?” he asks softly.

I meet his eyes. “I don’t know either.”

He nods like that makes sense and looks at my hands on his skin. “You are good at that, but I should have told you it’s not necessary.”

“What do you mean?” I hesitate.

“I heal very fast naturally.” I blink as a million questions come to mind, and he chuckles. “You can ask. I can almost see them in your eyes.”

“How fast? Does it depend on the state of injury? Can you heal anything? What about—”

“Whoa, whoa.” He chuckles. “Yes, we can heal almost anything. No, we aren’t immortal, but most wounds heal quickly. As for how fast, it depends on the severity of the wound and the age of the monster. I heal the quickest of my people.”

“Show off,” I mutter, and we share a shy smile. Despite his words, I apply more cream. “Then why did you let me carry on?” I finally ask, scared of his answer.

“Because I like the feel of your hands on my body,” he replies instantly, no shame in his response as he relaxes.

Sitting back in shock, I watch as his skin starts to heal, the burns almost melting into his skin like they were never there. Ten minutes later, all that is left is pink skin, and after the next ten, nothing.

It’s as if it never happened.

“Incredible,” I whisper.

“Yeah, that level of healing leaves us exhausted though,” he mumbles, still answering my questions, but his eyes are closed, so I don’t comment again. Instead, I sit back on my heels. Suddenly, I yelp as I fall. I didn’t even see him move, but I’m dragged into his arms and flipped. His back is to the door, and his huge, red body is wrapped around mine.

“Can’t run,” he explains tiredly.

Huffing, I smack his arm. “I won’t, now move, I can’t sleep like this.”

“So warm,” he purrs, nuzzling my neck, and I freeze as that purr spreads through his whole body, vibrating it.

“Cato, this is inappropriate,” I whine.

“Sleep, Tally.” He pushes his leg between mine. My eyes fly wide at the feeling of his huge knee pressed against my pussy.

Oh yeah, because I can sleep with a massive, red monster pressed up against me.

I must say it out loud, because he chuckles softly. “I don’t know, I don’t think I will sleep as hard as I will wrapped around the tiny soft human.”

“You’re delirious,” I argue.

He kisses my neck, and my pulse jumps. “Relax and sleep,” he orders.

Huffing, I try to wiggle to get comfortable when it’s obvious he has no intention of letting me go, only to still when something massive prods my back.

“Little Tally, I wouldn’t do that.”

Eyes widening, I stay frozen as he laughs again.

“Sleep, human.”

For some strange reason, I do.

Moaning, I burrow deeper into the heat, curling around it and sighing when it seems to tighten around me… Tighten? I slam my eyes open and stop breathing as I blink in confusion at the red skin before me.
