Page 75 of Monstrous Truths

I ignore him as they order me to lie on the metal bed. I do, with my arms on the rests, and a moment later, metal bands cover my chest, arms, legs, and neck, holding me still as the guards back against the wall.

Idiots.

“I want the full workup. Let’s see what the effects of its lifestyle have had,” the doctor calls, his voice sort of mumbled through the glass. I resign myself to being their lab rat, bite my tongue, and hold back my snarls as they take my blood.

They scan me and check every inch of me over, even my teeth.

I take it all and let myself think of nothing but Talia. I remember her smile, her laugh, and the feel of her hands on my skin. It keeps me calm. When they wander away, leaving me here, I meet the eyes of the scientist who is watching me curiously. “Where is my mate?” I demand, needing to know she’s okay.

The grin he gives me is vicious and reminds me of the men who used to torture us as kids.

“Talia?” The scientist smirks. “Right now, she’s in with another beast, being rutted and fucked in every hole so I can get what I need.”

The haze explodes.

With a roar, I sit upright, the metal bands snapping across my body. There’s yelling, but none of it matters.

She’s all that matters.

Filled with fury, anger, and resentment, the haze takes over until I’m across the lab, ripping the guns from the guards. I break them before I grab one’s head and rip out his throat. I let his corpse drop to the floor as I turn to another, who’s hitting me with a baton.

Everything is hazy and tinged with red, the bloodlust so extreme, I couldn’t stop if I wanted to.

My movements are fast and unhinged.

Grabbing a scientist, I lift him into the air and rip him apart right down the middle, his organs and blood spraying across everything. I ignore the yells. The door is locked, so they can’t get out, and I almost laugh as I tear through their masses. This is too easy.

They are so weak.

I let out an earth-shattering roar, and I hear the alarms blare. I still hear their screams, but I don’t care as I drop my head, my fangs dripping blood.

They are all dead men.

I’ll kill them all until I can get my mate.

TALIA

“No, let me go!” I scream as I’m dragged to a secret level I didn’t even know existed. This one is equipped with so much security, I know there will never be any hope of escape. There are too many guards, cameras, sensors, locked cells, and doors, and I begin to feel hopeless.

I thought they needed my brain, so why are they doing this? Why do they want me to mate with a monster? If I were thinking clearly, I could probably figure it out, but right now, my fight-or-flight instinct is taking hold as I’m dragged screaming and kicking through the corridor.

I sag and look around as I’m led through the lab. Compared to those I worked in or even the ones downstairs, this one is a butcher’s market. I cannot even begin to describe what I see. There are tubes, like those in the bunker, and inside them are half-monster children in various states of growth.

There are bigger ones spread on tables, being cut up, and there’s even a pregnant monster being cut open. I turn my head and throw up on my guard, gagging and getting sick over and over.

They are monsters.

They are evil.

I knew it, but seeing this? I can’t stop being sick, and the guard shouts and drops me to my knees. “Fuck. Look at my shoes, the stupid bitch!” one yells and kicks me like a dog.

I whimper, tears in my eyes as I look around.

“I’ll take her, go clean up,” another orders, grabbing me and dragging me quickly to avoid me being sick. At the end of the lab are rows of cells with glass walls. He picks one at random, unlocks it, and throws me in before locking it behind me.

Standing there with a grin, he stares at me and says, “Good luck, I’m going to enjoy this.”
