“And I’m betting you have many things to show me, Tally,” he purrs as he kisses me once more, telling me without words how much he loves me.

When Cato finally lets me leave our nest, I hurry to the bathroom and step into the shower, sighing as the water runs over my dirty, tired muscles. My head falls back, and I let the water cascade down my body before hands grab me and haul me back against a huge, hard body.

“Cato!” I laugh as I slap his wandering hands.

“What? I’m just preserving water.” He grins, turning me to see his sparkling eyes. “Now be good and let your mate take care of you.”

I stand here as he washes every inch of me, starting at my toes and ending with my face until I’m panting from his skilled hands, especially since he spent five minutes washing my nipples with his tongue.

When he drops to his knees and grins up at me, I can’t help but snort. “Preserving water?” I tease.

“Exactly, and how can you ask me not to take care of my mate when I can smell her pretty cunt demanding my attention?” Grabbing my ass with sharp nails, he tugs me closer, presses his face to my pussy, and inhales with a groan. “You always smell so delicious. I think I might need to have you walk around with my cum on every inch of you so no other smells it.”

“Cato,” I protest, feeling my cheeks heat, even as the idea has me licking my lips.

“Beautiful little Tally, tell me, shall we do an experiment?” The smirk he aims my way has my thighs clenching.

“Experiment?” I echo dumbly.

“To see how long it takes my mate to come on my tongue,” he purrs.

Oh fuck.

FORTY-SEVEN

TALIA

When Cato finally lets me escape the shower, I’m grinning way too widely. He helps me dress in tight jeans and a top before leading me downstairs hand in hand, where we eat with everyone else.

I would have felt awkward before, but I don’t any longer. If they don’t like me, then that’s on them. I don’t blame them, nor will I hold it against them, but I’m not going anywhere, and that gives me a sense of confidence as I walk into the old lecture hall they turned into a cafeteria.

A dinosaur skeleton hangs from the ceiling, and mismatched tables are spread around the space, with food tables along the back and many monsters gathered about. Nearly all turn to me when we enter, but I just smile and wave as Cato greets people, assuaging their worries with a confident smile. He never once lets go of my hand.

When we finally make our way to a table, he sits me down with a kiss and promises he will return.

He heads to the queue and stands at the back, making me grin as I watch him. Despite the conversation he’s in, he glances back at me and winks.

“He’s happier than I’ve ever seen him.”

I jump at the voice that’s close to me and turn to see his brother sitting at my table, a tray before him as he nods his head at Cato.

“I’m glad you’re both okay. We got the word when you crossed back over the wall, but I couldn’t relax until I saw him.”

“I’m sorry. I should have had him go see you last night,” I reply. “You’re his family, after all.”

“So are you. You’re his mate, and you come first. I don’t blame him for that. I’m just glad he’s okay…that you’re both okay,” he admits as he watches me. “I was a bastard to you. I’m sorry, Talia. I truly am. How could I ever hate someone who makes the only family I have left that happy?”

Swallowing, I smile softly at him. “Thank you, but he’s the one who makes me happy. I was never happy over the wall. I don’t think I even remember what being happy felt like.”

“I know that feeling.” He nods, watching me carefully. “I would like for us to be friends.”

“I would like that, and I know Cato would as well.” I offer my hand to shake, but he takes it and presses it to his chest and then to mine, over my heart.

“That is how we accept apologies,” he explains, and I nod.

“Thank you, I will remember.” I cherish their lessons. After all, this is my home now, so I need to learn their ways.
