I don’t have the energy to clean up yet. Like my wolf, I’d rather throw myself a pity party I don’t deserve. So, retreating to my bedroom, I do exactly that. Kicking off my shoes, I plop down on my bed, and rest my eyes.

Claws crossed that I don’t fall asleep. Mood I’m in following Duke’s rejection, I wouldn’t be surprised if I have a doozy of a nightmare.

Luckily, I don’t. I nap for the next few hours, finding solace in my loneliness and dreamless sleep. I might even have gone without dinner and slept right through the night if it wasn’t for the fact that, shortly before dark, there came a banging at my front door.

I hear it first, heart leaping in my throat as my eyes spring wide open. The rest of my senses come online seconds later. Once I catch the scent of the delta male outside, I understand why my wolf didn’t warn me of his approach. That’s family out there, and no matter how mess up I am, I’m not afraid of family.

Bang.

Bang.

“Trish? I know you’re in there!”

Bang.

Rolling my eyes, I glance down to make sure that I didn’t sleep-shift again. Nope. I’m still wearing the same blouse and jeans from earlier today so I don’t have to worry about hearing Bobby complain that I’ve scarred him for life by prancing around naked in front of my cousin.

“Trish!”

“Hold on,” I holler back. “I’m coming!”

To my reply, the idiot bangs on my door again.

I swear, there better be an emergency in Accalia for all the racket he’s making. Like, honestly, I need him to warn me that we’re under attack, or one of Walker’s not-dead Betas found us, or Aleksander Filan decided to wage war on the Mountainside Pack. Something like that.

I definitely don’t expect him to march into my cabin once I lock the door and wave an empty cupcake wrapper in front of my face.

“I can’t believe you did this to me! I stood up for you. When Walker had Barrows grab you, I pleaded with the Alpha to find some way to bring you home safe. And how do you repay me? With betrayal!”

You know, everyone else in Accalia treats me with kid gloves. My parents. Duke. Even Audrey.

Not Bobby Danvers.

I roll my eyes. “What are you talking about?”

“Duke’s my pal. You’re family. I didn’t get involved because you two have got to work this out yourself, but that’s before you brought cupcakes into it.”

“Again, I ask: what are you talking about?”

This time, I’m referring to the first part of what he said—you two have got to work this out yourselves—but Bobby is still only irrationally focused on the last bit.

“Cupcakes!” The youngest Danvers of this generation, he’s always been the one closest to his wolf. As he snaps out the word, I see his canine teeth have become fangs. “I stopped by Duke’s and smelled the buttercream. And do you know what I found?”

I’m pretty sure he’s going to tell me.

He waves the wrapper again. “This! This was all that was left!”

What?

“One wrapper? But I made him a whole dozen.”

“Yeah. Iknow. I saw all of the wrappers, but this is the only one I got before he ran me out of his cabin. He ate them all, and got snappish when I asked for a wrapper to lick the icing. Can you believe it?”

Um. No, actually. I can’t.

I go warm. My whole body… it heats up with pleasure.

Because Duke? He ate cupcakes. All of them.
