They stared at each other, and she couldn’t help thinking about what he had just said. There might be a life growing inside of her, right at this moment. What would it be like to have a baby with Ethan? A son with his eyes and smile. Or a daughter….

The longing almost pitched her to the floor.

“Don’t,” he grounded out, slashing his hand through the air. “Do not look at me like that.”

“Like what?” she asked achingly.

His eyes were unreadable in the shadows. “I do not want to be a bloody blackguard who trample upon you will or dreams. How you feel matter greatly to me, Charity. I never want to steal your choices. I am also not made of fucking marble. You are looking at me as if you want me to kiss … you, damn well hold you, ravish you.”

Hold me, yes. A sob hitched inside her throat, and she stepped even closer to him. “Ethan, I do want you to—”

He tugged her into his arms, and his mouth swallowed the rest of his words in a punishing and ravishing kiss.
