As her breathing changed, becoming more rapid, I pushed up from the bed, switching the angle. She pressed her palms against my chest, her eyes never blinking.

“Oh…”

“Come for me, baby. Come on my cock.” My whisper was harsh, husky and dripping with lust. Her smile was a sweet reward and when she closed her eyes, her entire body shaking, I thrust even harder.

“Oh. Yes. Yes. Yes!” As her body spasmed, I finally lifted my head, allowing the sensations and burning need to drive me to the point of no return. The moment I erupted, filling her with my seed, I was able to smile.

Seconds later, I finally gazed into her eyes, marveling in the shimmer dancing across her skin. She was without a doubt the most beautiful woman in the world, and she was all mine.

“So amazing,” she murmured, allowing her fingers to create a trail down the length of my chest.

As I finally relaxed, shifting to the side then pulling her into my arms, I heard her whispered words, although I had a feeling she didn’t want me to hear them.

“I love you.”

The ache in my heard returned, the knowledge that being with her would change everything about both our lives almost too much to think about. I pulled her as close as possible, taking a few seconds to slow my breathing. How in the name of God was I going to be able to protect her?

We remained exactly as we were, neither one needing to say anything else. As her breathing became more even, I kissed her on the top of her head, slowly easing out of bed and adjusting my jeans. Then I walked to the window, peering out at the cliffside. I’d been through the tunnel, the ability to leave the house unnoticed a benefit that could end up saving our lives. While the corridor wasn’t in the best shape, it provided some sense of comfort.

Why did I continue to have such a bad feeling I was missing something?

I remained where I was, grateful she was getting some rest. There were too many unanswered questions, and most of them would remain that way. I’d searched and found the professor, unable to ascertain if his Russian connection meant shit. Then there was the CIA agent. Neither Jeremy nor I had been able to determine he was on the take.

That left members of her own team, which was possible, although not plausible, unless the plan had been in motion for longer than I believed. And the fact the handler had disappeared created the most angst. I had no idea who he was either in title or location. That stuck in my mind, festering more every passing hour.

When another bolt of lightning lit up the sky, I could swear I noticed movement only yards away from the house. Immediately bristling, I pulled away from the window, moving quickly to retrieve my weapon then heading to the other side of the bed to turn off the light. I wasn’t given that chance. The hard crack sounding off in my ears was followed by the light flicking off.

The fucking power was out.

That had both advantages and disadvantages, but in the darkness, if the house had been invaded, the fuckers wouldn’t be able to see us.

I knew the system had a backup generator for the security, but I was surprised not for the house. With my weapon in hand, I shifted back to the window, carefully peering outside.

Crack!

The sound I heard wasn’t created by the storm, but from somewhere in the house. My training instantly shifted into overdrive. I moved to the bed, placing my hand over Isabella’s mouth. When she jerked up, I leaned over. “Listen to me. I believe the security has been breached. Get dressed and stay as quiet as possible.”

I didn’t need to see the look of terror in her eyes. I could feel it emanating from her skin. She trembled but did as I asked, crawling out of bed and immediately grabbing her things. I shoved on a shirt, once again peering out the window, the next flash of lightning not presenting any movement.

When she was dressed, I moved toward the bedroom door, carefully opening it a crack. While there was no movement that I could detect, my gut told me there was someone else inside the house. I closed the door, taking several deep breaths before pulling her toward me. “We’re going to the tunnel.”

She nodded, her breath skipping.

I only had the single weapon, leaving the others in my room. I’d been careless, believing the house was secure. At least I had a fresh clip of ammunition.

“I’m going to head to the other bedroom for another weapon. Stay right behind me.”

“I’m terrified,” she managed.

“I know. It may be nothing.” Yet I knew better. We moved into the darkened hallway, staying close to the wall. We were at the door to the other room when a hard rumble of thunder seemed to vibrate the entire house. Her single yelp was muffled but loud enough it could draw attention.

There was no time to waste. I rushed into the room, yanking the bag from the closet, reacting to the situation as I would while facing any moment of possible combat. I threw on a holster, loading another handgun with a full magazine, shoving two into my pockets. Then I grabbed a third, loading it then handing it to her.

She took a deep breath, gingerly taking it into her hand.

“Shoot to kill, princess.”

After grabbing two flashlights, pushing a small one into her back pocket, I took a deep breath, my heart pounding. Whatever the fuck had occurred, heads would roll.
