I tilted my head to hide from the passengers across from us. How could I flip out like that?

“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I’m just nervous.”

“You don’t need to be. If anyone should be nervous, it’s me. I have everything to lose if you refuse to give us a second chance.”

I saw it there in his blue depths: fear.

I pressed my hand to his cheek and kissed him. Eli inhaled me as our tongues tangoed. Again a throat cleared, forcing us apart.

“Sorry to interrupt.” The flight attendant’s eyes shimmered as she gazed down at Eli.

“No problem. Just don’t do it again.” He took the drinks as she gaped at his rude remark. “Thanks.”

I put my tray down so he could set my drink on it. “Be nice.”

“How can I when she interrupted our kiss?”

“She was only doing her job.”

He huffed. “Whatever.”

I patted his chest, understanding his frustrations. I was enjoying myself too. “There will be plenty of kissing later.”

“What about fucking? Like as soon as we get to our suite.”

“Our suite?”

He shot me a lopsided grin. “I upgraded us to a suite and canceled your room.”

“You should have asked me about that first.”

“Next time I will. Are you angry? I didn’t think you needed a room when you could stay with me, and I wanted something larger than a standard room.”

This man. Infuriating, but also magnificent.

“I’m not angry.”

He lowered his lips to mine and stole my breath away in a spine-tingling kiss.

Being in such close proximity to Eli made the five hours fly by. We watched a movie together. He worked on his iPad while I read on my Kindle. We kissed in between it all, not caring if the stuffy businessmen across from us grumbled to each other about the “lovebirds.”

Everything felt natural, just as it did back when we were married. Could it be so easy to be us again? I wish I had a guarantee. I hadn’t been starry-eyed and happy like this since well before the divorce.

I didn’t want it to end.

But I was afraid to hope. Afraid Eli might let me down.

Eli

I OPENED THE door to our suite and held my breath. I wanted this week to be perfect for my girl. By the look on Autumn’s face and the view out of the windows, it just might be the most spectacular suite we’d ever stayed in. It was modern with lots of white, dark woods, and brushed steel. It reminded me of our old apartment.

The day Autumn saw me talking to Cindy, I had just told her I canceled Autumn’s room and had plans to woo my wife back into my life. It’d merely been a courtesy so Cindy could make her own plans during the trip and not rely on Autumn to spend time with her. I’d flat out told her Autumn would be busy when not at the conference. She’d laughed and called me bossy. I’d relayed the same message to Louis, so he didn’t expect anything from me.

“Oh my God, Eli. This room is fabulous.” She went to the windows. “You can see Central Park.”

I smiled, watching her whiskey-colored eyes flit around the room.
