“Great? That’s not the response I was expecting. Usually you’re stressed out and pissed at your dad.”

“Yeah, well you caught me at a good time.”

“Excellent. I’m flying in on Christmas Eve and thought I’d crash with you.”

Shit.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea. I’m asking Miranda to move in with me this weekend.”

“Miranda? That sweet little blonde? You lucky bastard! How the hell did you manage that? Pay her off?” He hissed into the phone as he laughed.

I ground my teeth, and anger spurred in my belly as he made it sound like Miranda chose me only for my money. “Fuck off.”

“So, it’s serious?”

I didn’t want to talk about Miranda and me with Jason. But what could I do? He was my friend. “I like her a lot.”

“Enough to ask her to move in. I’d say you’re in love with her, bro. So much for screwing your way through your twenties. I guess that’s what happens when the right person comes along.”

“I guess.”

“You’ve got the room. I’ll stay out of the way. Unless she’s a tornado siren when you fuck her? I wouldn’t want her embarrassed. Not that it’d bother me at all…”

Fury replaced anger.

If Jason had a family to spend the holidays with, I’d say no. But he didn’t, and I felt sorry for him. “How long do you plan to stay?”

“Aww, there’s my buddy. I knew you wouldn’t let me down. Just a couple of days, then I’ll get out of your hair.”

“Sounds good. See you then.” The line went dead.

I stewed for a bit. Even if Miranda said yes, she’d probably want to wait until after the holidays to move in. Or at least I hoped she would, now that Jason was coming.

A sick feeling came over me.

Jason and Miranda in the same room felt dirty to me. If I caught him undressing her with his eyes, I’d put my fist through his skull. Jason had better control himself aroundmygirl.
