“You heard her. She doesn’t want to talk to you.” The dude started to close the door, but I stuck my foot in the way. “Leave or I’m calling the police.”

“Go ahead. I’d like to chat with them as well.”

“Will! Why are you doing this? It’s over. We’re over.”

Over. The singular word sliced open my heart. We would never be over, especially now. We were having a baby together.

“That wasn’t my choice. You were gone when I got back.” I sucked in a breath, recalling how I wanted to ask her to marry me the day I returned from Vegas. “Everything of yours was gone. You disappeared. Even changed your name. Why? How could you just leave without a word?”

“Don’t be a jerk. I didn’tjustleave. You made a choice. So did I. I was done being disrespected and cheated on.”

“Goddammit, Miranda!”

“Hey! Watch yourself,” Derek shouted. He looked nothing like me. A little taller and maybe more muscular from what I could make out through his clothes. Blond hair and sage-colored eyes. He had a good ole boy look about him, yet his hardened gaze said he’d give it his all in beating the shit out of me.

“I didn’t cheat. I would never cheat on you, baby.”

Her lip trembled as she shook her head. She didn’t believe me. Why would she when all I’d been doing was lying to her? But she had to know what was in my heart. She had to have felt it a million times over.

Dammit, I thought she knew me better than anyone.

“Liar! Her name is Cori. I never dreamed you’d have an affair, an ongoing one at that. But seeing you together made it all real. I saw you kiss her. If you weren’t cheating, then what in the hell were you doing with her? With Jason?”

Christ, I couldn’t tell her yet. I couldn’t bring her into this mess with Jason. My father, York, and Axel would all have my ass. I couldn’t put her or our baby at risk.

Our baby. My baby.

WILL FOUND ME. Unbelievable.

Not sure why I was surprised, given his resources. I should have known better.

My stomach was in knots. His timing was impeccable. Again, I shouldn’t be surprised. Derek and I had been heating up on the sofa when the banging on the door ensued.

It felt like fate had sent Will to stop me before I slept with Derek. Just like it had brought us together the night in the club.

But if fate was on our side, why had Cori come into our lives?

I waited for Will to answer me, our eyes locked, Derek shielding me from him. I knew Will didn’t have an answer. Or maybe he couldn’t think up another lie fast enough when put on the spot.

Either way, it killed me to see him again. Here at my door, not long after another man had been kissing and touching me. A man I liked a lot—a man who was respectful and gentle. Derek seemed to know what I needed and how to take care of me.

Will used to be the same.

My head was a mess of confusion. My mind said to send Will away, while my heart and soul needed him. Wanted him.

What in the hell was I to do?

Will remained silent, but I could see a struggle going on inside him. Why not tell me what was going on if he really hadn’t been cheating on me? To continue to deny it at every turn was why I had stayed and fought for us. But Charlie’s and Vegas were the final straw. I couldn’t take the lies anymore.

“You appear to have nothing to say. I want you to leave.” I nudged Derek to close the door, but Will’s foot remained in the way.

“We need to talk, M,” Will said through gritted teeth. “You’re pregnant withmybaby!”

My stomach flip-flopped. If he threatened to fight me for the baby, I’d die. No, I wouldn’t. I’d run to another country. I’d go underground. I would do anything to keep my baby, even return to Will and live a life of lies while he fucked Cori on “her night.” All that mattered to me was my baby.

“The baby won’t be here for another six months. We’ll talk then.”
