“Baby, it’s okay.” I rubbed her back in a soothing circle just the way she liked.

“It is a beautiful house, and the view is spectacular.” She bit her lip. I had a feeling she was trying to make me happy. Since she’d returned from Spokane, Miranda had takenagreeableto a new level. She had left every decision up to me, and that wasn’t like her at all. It concerned me to no end. I wanted to find out what was going on with her. Just not now. Later, when we were home and alone.

“We’ll find the right house for us, one we both agree on and love. Let’s get you to your bridal dress appointment.”

“Okay. And what will you do while I’m busy out with the girls?”

“I have some stuff to take care of at the office. I’m going to leave Axel with you and take York with me.”

She nodded as I took her hand to lead her out to the foyer, where I heard voices.

“Laura, we’re ready to leave,” I said. “We’d like to look around a bit more. I’ll be in touch to set up another appointment.”

“Absolutely, Mr. St. James. Whenever the two of you are ready, I’ll be ready.” Laura smiled, opening the front door.

“Thank you so much for your time, Laura. Finding a new house is a lot more challenging than I thought,” Miranda said, stepping out behind Axel. She waved as she ducked into the SUV.

“Have fun shopping for your wedding dress,” Laura hollered. “She’s going to make a beautiful bride,” she whispered to me.

“Yes she will. Have a good day, Laura.” I slid into the Range Rover next to Miranda.

She smiled and leaned her head on my shoulder. I couldn’t wait to marry her and make her officially mine.

“THERE’S OUR BEAUTIFUL bride-to-be,” Claire announced. She rushed over and gave me a kiss on both cheeks and then turned to Will and did the same.

“I’m so sorry I’m late.” We were supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago.

“We hit a little traffic.” Will snaked his hand around the back of my waist and tucked me into his side. He kissed my temple. “But she’s here now.”

“No worries at all, dear.” Claire patted his arm.

“There’s my girl.” My mom opened her arms, and I went in for a big hug. “I’ve missed you, sweetie. Congratulations.”

“Thank you, Mom. I’m so happy you could make it out.”

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

“Mel, it’s great to see you.” Will hugged my mom.

“And you. How are you feeling?”

“Much better. Did Miles come with you?”

“No, I’m sorry. He sends his regards.” My mom flitted her eyes from me to Will. “He just needs a little more time. You know how stubborn he can be.” She pressed her hand softly to my cheek. “Just give him time.”

After everything that had happened, my dad was furious with Will. For hurting his baby girl, of course. Even after I’d explained the mess with the stolen money and Jason kidnapping me, my dad wasn’t ready to play nice with Will.

“Understandable,” Will graciously replied. “I let him down, but I assure you, it won’t happen again.”

“I know. He’s just… Miles. He loves his baby girl fiercely.”

“I completely understand.” Will placed his hand on my tummy and gave it a gentle rub. He sure loved touching my stomach. It melted me every time. “I’ll leave you now. If you need anything, call me.” He gave me a sweet kiss.

“Okay. I love you.”

He pinched my chin and kissed me again. “Love you too.” He winked, then turned toward Axel and nodded.
