“Well, climb on and I’ll tell you.”

“I’d be delighted to.” She held my cock and eased onto it, taking her time to adjust to my girth. “Oh God.” She tossed her head back and started to ride me. I had a feeling she’d forget all about our discussion.

“Damn, I love how warm and tight you are.” I gripped her hips, helping to lift her, and pulled her down onto my cock.

“Morning sex is the best.”

“The best with you.”

“Aww. You’re so sweet.” She draped herself over my body, cradled my face, and kissed me. “Now take me on the ride of my life.”

I flipped her onto her back and set a leisurely pace making love to her.

There was no reason to rush morning sex. I wasn’t expecting York to arrive until after ten o’clock. We’d be up and dressed for the day by then, and all I wanted to do after he left was spend the entire day making this beautiful woman smile. I’d sit through the cheesy romcoms she loved without complaint. Eat whatever junk food she ate. Have sex whenever she wanted, wherever and however.

My only goal for the time I had left was to be everything to Simone as she was to me.

“I called in several favors. We have eyes on Corbin. We’ll get him as soon as we have one piece of concrete evidence.” York flicked his gaze over to Simone. I refused to talk in the hallway, needing to keep her in my sight. After what happened last night, I didn’t want her alone for a second. But staying with her twenty-four seven meant not seeing Conrad. I hated choosing between my brother and the woman I loved.

But I couldn’t leave Simone, no matter how much it pained me to leave Conrad alone. I just couldn’t risk leaving her vulnerable even though I knew Jones and Darwin were capable. She was mine and I needed to protect her.

“How long do you think it will take them?” I wanted this asshole brought in before I left. My spirit wouldn’t be able to rest if I knew she was still in danger when I took my last breath.

“Not sure. You know these things can take time. And sometimes we get lucky.”

“This needs to be finished by next Friday.” I narrowed my eyes so he’d read between the lines.

“I know.” He gripped my bicep, assuring me he understood. “What about Conrad?”

“Jagged Lords are checking in on him while I’m here.” I cut my eyes to Simone. She was reading a book in her favorite chair by the window. The way the sun streamed in around her made her look ethereal, like a Greek goddess. My chest tightened, excruciatingly so.

“Good. I’ve set up a safe house for him. Once I know Abram is no longer a threat, I’ll let him go.”

“Thank you. It means a lot to me.”

“I just wish you’d reconsider.” He turned toward Simone again. “She’s going to be devastated. What do you plan to tell her?”

“Nothing. Just good-bye.”

York furrowed his brow. “Jesus, man. That is cruel. I’m not a sentimental bastard, but I don’t want her thinking you left her for no good reason.”

“She can’t know I’m going to bemurdered.” I lowered my voice and jerked my chin for him to follow me to the door. “What did you expect me to tell her?”

He scrubbed his hand over his face. “Fuck, I don’t know. I’ve known her since she was a little girl. She’s the closest thing I have to a daughter. Walking away with only a good-bye will destroy her. Destroy her,” he hissed, gritting his teeth.

“Don’t you think I know that?” I got in his face. “It’s fucking killing me, man. I don’t want to leave her, but I don’t have a choice.”

“Yes, you do.”

“I’m not turning Conrad over to Abram. I won’t do it.”

“So she’s going to think you just left her and then never hear from you again.”

“Yes.”

“Will won’t let it go after your gone. He’ll try to find you.”

“And he’ll come up empty-handed.” I glanced at Simone. “Protect her with your life. Vet every guy she goes out with, and I want eyes on her…” The words lodged in my throat. I couldn’t do this. I had to assume York would take care of her forever.
