The Hunters hadn’t shown their faces in Bastion, though. Coward, little cunts. But in Winters, they’d been out and about as if it were their hometown, their territory.

Boxer dropped into the chair in front of my desk, breathing hard. “I convinced Jill to go visit her friend for a few weeks.”

“Herbestfriend?” Track had a taunting glint in his eye.

Boxer glared. “You got something to say, brother?” The two stared each other down.

As president, I knew all my men’s backstories. Including the women they loved, if there were any. Boxer had a woman he’d pined over since he was eighteen. I’d heard all about the girl he called Snow, when we’d met in the Marines. Snow was Jill’s best friend. She lived in Seattle with her “douchey boyfriend.” Those were Boxer’s words, not mine.

“Just wasn’t sure if you meant Snow.”

“Fuck off! You damn well know I meant Snow, you motherfucker!”

“Calm your ass, Boxer,” I barked. After nine years, you’d think Boxer would be over her, but I understood not getting over a girl after meeting Madeline. I was sure I’d never get over my Angel.

“I told Jill the club would get the mess cleaned up. Her apartment was upstairs, you know. I want to give her and Wolf my room when she gets back. I’ll take a room downstairs until they find a new place.”

“That’s fine.” I stroked my hand over my beard, thinking. “The club will cover whatever her insurance doesn’t. Grizz is checking the surveillance cameras for the boutique and gun shop. We need to amp up security all around.”

Raul stepped forward. “What do you want us to do?”

I looked between him and Track. “This shit smells of war. They’re hitting us softly, trying to annoy us, get us to react emotionally.” I cut my gaze to Boxer. “We willnotgive them what they want.”

“So, they’re just fucking with us for what?” Track stepped beside his dad.

“Sounds like they want Winters. I fuckin’ won’t let them get it.” Madeline’s pretty face flashed behind my eyes. “There are more of us than them. If we screw up, we could get thrown in jail. Then the Hunters would overrun us.”

“Shit…” Boxer gripped the back of his neck.

“I want to know what the fuck they’re planning!” I slammed my hand down on the desk. “We need to find out where they’re hiding, where they’ve set up their makeshift camp. I want all men involved!”

“I’m on it,” Raul left my office.

“I need to check on the gym and see Jill before she leaves. I’ll be back in a couple of hours,” Boxer grunted on his way out.

“Damn…” Track plopped into Boxer’s forsaken chair. “Word on the street is, Hunters are soliciting women in Winters to work for them. Five-hundred a day…”

“Fuck!” I didn’t like hearing this shit was going on in Madeline’s town.

Track leaned forward, elbows on his knees. “You know it’s only a matter of time before they notice her. She’s too beautiful to miss.”

My eye twitched, leveling my gaze on his. “AJ is still watching her.”

“I know. I pay attention around here. Don’t think it’ll be enough to protect her, though.” He squeezed the bridge of his nose, blowing out a long breath. “We also gotta think about Justin’s daughter, Emilee. She’s in and out of the clubhouse all damn day. Same with Tina. Good thing Sugar and the boys are gone.”

“Yeah, they won’t be back for a couple more weeks.” Sugar had taken the twins on a road trip back east to visit National Monuments and go to DC. “I’ll talk to Justin about his daughter. Raul will handle Tina.”

Track nodded, but I could tell he had something else to say.

“What is it?” I rasped.

“Do you want to talk about what happened at the lake?”

“If I wanted to talk about it, I would’ve fuckin’ talked about it.”

“And Madeline?”

I never lied to Track. I hated any form of lying with a burning passion. When asked a direct question, I answered it truthfully—just as I expected my men to do.
