“Eyes over here, beautiful.”

Reluctantly, she swooped them up to mine. She swallowed, clearly struggling to answer my question.

I asked again. “Why do you think you weren’t any good?”

“My ex.” I barely heard her quiet reply.

My jaw tensed at the thought of some other guy’s dick in her mouth. Goddamn, I really hated the idea of another dude’s cock anywhere near her. I recalled her saying she’d been cheated on. Was it by the same guy who told her she wasn’t any good at giving a blow job?

“When was this, baby?” I felt a violent storm brewing inside me.

She sighed. “Come on, let’s not do this.”

“I’m just curious. This guy sounds like an asshole.”And I want to kill him.

“He was. We were together for almost two years. Broke up six months ago. You’re the first guy I’ve been with since him. Didn’t really want to be with anyone after Dane.”

Dane. What a pansy name.

I kissed the tip of her nose, then pressed my forehead to hers. “What did he tell you, baby?” Why the fuck I needed to know about this guy was beyond me. I just did. Aside from being curious, who the fuck was I? I never talked this much with chicks. I never cared to know anything about them.

But Madeline was different, and I wanted to know everything about her.

“He said I was subpar in bed, and it was a good thing I had a winning personality, or he’d dump my ass.” She closed her eyes tight. Embarrassment radiated off her, skin turning red on her cheeks and down to her chest.

“Fucker,” I hissed, wishing I could beat the shit out of him. “What else?”

“Seriously? I don’t want to do this.” She wiggled her hands, so I’d let her go, but I wasn’t ready to set her free.

“I need to know why you’re so upset. We’re doing this.”

“Look, I could never please Dane, okay? Whether it was cooking, cleaning, or how I looked. Nothing I did was good enough. I wasn’t good enough. I tried so damn hard to make him happy. To be everything he wanted and needed. Even when he cheated on me, I tried.” She worried her bottom lip between her teeth. “He blamed me for him cheating because I was horrible in bed.”

“I’ll kill him! No. I’ll castrate him, then kill him.”

“No, it’s over. I got out.”

“Still, that prick mistreated you.”

She leveled her gaze, eyes hard and pissed. “Yes, he did. Are you happy now?”

I rubbed my forehead against hers. “Angel, he lied to you. You’re the best I’ve ever had in bed. And that’s saying something…” Shit. Not the road I wanted to go down now or ever. Dumbass.

“Yeah, and how many have you had in bed?”

Knew that question was coming. “A lot. I’m thirty, never had an old lady.”

“So, a lot to compare me to. Probably dozens…”

I felt like an asshole. She already believed she was inadequate and subpar, and I just made her afraid I’d compare her to other women—biggest asshole on the planet.

“No. You’re the only woman I’ve wanted more than once.”

“Oh, jeez.” She rolled her eyes. I didn’t like it when she did that. “Somehow, I don’t believe you. There’s got to be someone you’ve been with more than once.”

“There’s a kitten who I preferred over the others.” I hated admitting there had been one woman. I didn’t want to lie to Madeline. But Carla had been my go-to since the day I let her into the clubhouse two years ago. Not sure why, either. I never liked blondes or fake tits. Carla had both. She was like a favorite, broken-in pair of shoes. Comfortable and familiar. I could take her without any talking or kissing. Minutes later, I’d send her on her way. There wasn’t anything more to it.

“Preferred a kitten?” She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips together.
