He reared back like I slapped him. “You’d rather be with a dirty biker. Have our daughter around those seedy outlaws?”

“You have no idea what those people are like. How they care deeply for their own and would do anything to protect each other. How they stand together unfailing. They are a family, Richard. Something Sadie has never had. She had friends there. People who were like aunts and uncles. She was the happiest I’ve ever seen her.”

He threw his hand up. “Enough. I don’t want to hear it. She’s my daughter.”

“Biologically, yes, she is. But you’re not her father.”

His eyes flashed with fury.

Dammit, I shouldn’t have said that last bit.

He stood and came over to us. Squatting, he placed his hand on Sadie’s back and pinned me in the chair with his laser glare. “We’re going to give Sadie the family she deserves. A mommy and daddy under the same roof.”

“What?”

“Dolly, you’ve made me what I am today. One of the richest club owners on the strip. I’m not letting you go.”

“My God, Richard. What has happened to you?”

“You left me. My numbers dropped forty percent in the fucking month you’ve been gone.”

I rolled my eyes. “You’re just all about the money. Find a new girl.”

“No time for it. Besides, my customers want you.”

I shook my head, turning away from him.

He was out of his mind if he thought I’d do as he pleased. When put to the test, I could be the biggest pain in the ass to walk the planet. Richard would regret the day he ripped me away from the man I love. From the life, my daughter thrived in.

“Jay,” he said my name in a commanding tone.

I cut my gaze at him.

“Make this work or your boyfriend will do time. I will do whatever it takes to keep you here. Even marry you.”

“You’re deranged if you think I would ever marry you.” The mere suggestion of it made me sick.

“Guess you don’t love your boyfriend. Most women would do anything to protect their lover.”

I do love Zander with all my heart.

“Zander isn’t self-serving like you. He’d rather rot in jail if it meant keeping me from getting tied to someone like you.”

He snorted and kissed Sadie’s head. “Dolly, we’re already tied for life.”

“I’ll never marry you.”

“We’ll see about that.” He pinched my cheek and stalked out of the room.

What was I to do? If he honestly believed he could make me marry him, he might have another card up his sleeve. He sounded confident, which scared the crap out of me.

At least I didn’t need to worry about dancing on Dirty Dick’s stage for a couple of weeks. I hoped in that time, Zander would be released. But him getting out of jail could make matters worse. I knew with every fiber in my being, he’d come for us. Not even the law would stop him.

I smiled as a tear streaked down my cheek.

We belonged to Zander. Period. End.
