He pushed the girls back. “Lemme go take a piss first. Meet ya in the corner.”

The kittens excitedly scampered away.

“How about I help you to your bedroom?” Somehow I needed to stop Lynx from fucking up his life.

“Can’t go there. I smell her perfume on my pillow.”

“I’ll get you fresh sheets.”

Lynx pushed off the stool and left, leaving behind his cell phone on the bar. I snatched it without thinking twice and called Jaynee.

“Zander, oh, thank God.” The worry in her voice confused me.

“It’s Ire.”

“Oh my God! Is Zander okay?”

“Why wouldn’t he be?”

“Um,” she hesitated. “It’s personal. When he left my house, he was upset. We’d argued about something and he took off. I’ve been calling and texting all evening. Is he okay?”

“No he’s not. Hold on a second.” I waved at Maddox to come here.

He stalked over with his brow furrowed. He reminded me a lot of his father, Matt and Storm. “What’s up?”

“I need you to go to Karma’s house and bring Jaynee here. Now. Be fast but safe.”

“Something wrong?”

“Prospect, don’t ask me questions,” I growled.

“Yes, sir.” He rushed out.

I put the phone back to my ear. “Jaynee?”

“I’m here. What’s going on with Lynx?”

“He needs you. I’m sending a prospect to your place to bring you to the club.”

“Lynx won’t like that. He told me to stay away from him.” Her voice was full of emotion.

“Then you better prepare for a fight. Can you handle it? If you don’t care about Lynx and would rather stay away, that’s fine.”

“No. I do care about him. I can handle it. I’ll be ready for anything he dishes me.”

The corner of my lip curled. “I believe Lynx has met his match with you. I’ll do my best to stall him until you get here.”

“Stall him?”

“Three kittens are trying to get with him.”

“Oh fuck! Don’t let him Ire. Please don’t let him.”

“Brothers don’t interfere in situations like this. Just hurry.”

“Okay. Thanks for calling me.” The line ended.

Lynx returned from the bathroom and leaned against the bar, and grabbed his bottle. “The universe sucks,” he mumbled, then guzzled his numbing agent.

“Tell me about it. I’ve found the woman of my dreams, and she’s sworn off men. I die every time I’m with her.” If Lynx wasn’t completely drunk, he’d sit his ass down to hear me out. It was easy to talk to him about shit, compared to my other brothers.

Lynx eyed me as if trying to quiet the chaos in his head. “Something happen with Ava?”

I nodded, putting my beer to my lips. Nothing dire had happened, but Lynx didn’t know any different. Maybe I could talk his ear off while I waited for Jaynee to arrive. Anything to keep him from the kittens.

“What?” He hopped onto the barstool.

All right, Ire. Get talking and save your brother from betraying himself and Jaynee.

“I almost told Ava how I really feel…”
