I reached for the document on the table, trying to skim it. The only thing that stood out was the date. It was the same day Sadie and I were drugged at Ernie’s club.

“No. Don’t do this, Richard.”

“Jaynee, be quiet,” Zander snipped.

My jaw dropped. “Are you kidding? I can’t let you go to jail.”

“Be quiet, Jay,” he told me in a warning tone. Was he fucking kidding me? Be quiet?

Richard stood. “If you care about the biker, return to Vegas with me.”

Lynx reacted lightning-fast, punching Richard in the face. I screamed, watching as the man I’d fallen for hit my ex not once but multiple times before Storm and Track pulled him off, Richard.

“That’s it! I’m done fucking around here, sheriff. I want him arrested for assault.” Blood dripped down Richard’s chin.

The sob I’d been holding back spilled from my lips. Zander struggled to break free as Storm and Track held him. I put my hands on my head, utterly confused and terrified.

“I’m sorry, Storm.” The sheriff removed handcuffs.

“No, no, no,” I sobbed. “Please. Please don’t take him. He’s innocent.”

The room spun out of control; my whole world crashed down on me.

“Go get our daughter, Jaynee,” Richard ordered through gritted teeth.

I turned to Zander for help. He shook his head ever so slightly. “Don’t leave with him, Jay.”

I threw my arms around his waist and cried in his chest. “I can’t let you go to jail.”

He pressed his lips to my head. “Baby, I’ll be okay. You need to protect Sadie from that asshole.”

I squeezed him tighter. “Please, Zander. I need you.”

“I want him held as long as possible,” Richard told the sheriff.

“You son of a bitch!” I shoved him.

He grabbed my arm. “Get Sadie.”

Zander went nuts, jerking his body to go after Richard again. “Get your fucking hands off her!”

“Settle down, man,” Storm hissed.

The deputy with Sheriff Hendricks took Zander’s arm. “I gotta take him to the car.”

Storm blocked my view. “Zander!”

“Stay here, Jay. Don’t you leave!” he yelled. “Do you hear me?”

“Yes, but—”

“Stay here!”

How could I sit back and let him go to jail? If I went with Richard, he wouldn’t press charges.

What have you done, Jay? How could you bring all this crap to these people?

First, Lisa died.
