I picked it up and read the name of a private investigator.

“On the back,” Storm told me.

I flipped the card around. My greatest fear, more than getting Alzheimer’s, stared back at me. “Impossible. How did he find him?”

“That’s what PIs do.” Storm’s stormy-gray eyes pinned me in my chair. “They find our skeletons. The shit we thought was buried.”

“I can’t believe they found Lane. I’m screwed.” My life was over. The future I wanted with Jaynee and Sadie was stolen from me in one night.

“Now that’s the wrong attitude to have, brother. We’ll figure this out.” He stopped, not taking his eyes off me. “Theo, give us a minute.”

The suit grabbed his shit and left.

As soon as the door shut, Storm picked up where he left off. “What you’re going to do is keep your nose clean in here. Your girls need you.”

“Done. But how do we keep them safe?”

“Wolf and Hollywood are already on the road to Vegas. We’ll have eyes on them the whole time.”

I dropped my chin to my chest, exhaling a monster sigh of relief. “Appreciate it. But we can’t let Richard get away with this. He only wants Jaynee to dance on his fucking stage. He doesn’t care about her and Sadie.”

“Grizz is on it. We have your back, brother. Grizz will find a way to shut the club down and find Lane.”

A ray of fucking hope flickered in my chest. I should know my prez and club would stand beside me and fight.

“Good. Now Theo needs to get me out of here.”

“It’s all up to Richard and if he presses charges.”

“He’s going to scare Jaynee into staying with him. Make her believe if she leaves again, I’ll be here for the next century.” I knew my girl and how her mind and heart worked. She’d want to protect me. She loved me just as I loved her, even though neither of us had said the L-word. Dammit, I should’ve told her and not waited so long to claim her. Now she was gone. “You shouldn’t have let her go.” I was getting fired up all over again.

Storm’s jaw twitched. “Don’t start with me. You’re the one who lost control.”

“I can’t stay in here for ninety fucking days with Jaynee and Sadie under that prick’s thumb.”

“Theo’s on it.”

Tears stung behind my eyes. “My mom, she might not make it to Christmas.” I hadn’t told Storm what the doctor had said. How could I fuck up like this? Get myself thrown in jail when my mom and my girls needed me?

“Shit, brother. I’m sorry.”

“I’ll miss the wedding too.” I felt like a piece of shit.

“Just keep your nose clean. We’ll get you out of here as soon as we can.”

As soon as they can? In the meantime, I’d be in my cell imagining all kinds of shit.

Fuck!

It killed me to be apart from Jaynee.

What would days, weeks, or months do to me?

What would it do to my girls?
