“I’ve never stopped loving you, and I never will.”

She ran back to me, smashed her lips to mine, and kissed me hard. Nova giggled joyfully, but I didn’t let her distract me from my woman.

Karma pulled away. “Phew. I better go before, you know.” She winked and pranced out of the kitchen.

“What did she mean?” Nova asked.

“Um, I’m not sure.” Damn, I wished I could join Karma in the shower.

“So, how do you put a baby in her tummy?”

“It’s complicated. Are you finished eating? There are a few pancakes left.” Somehow I needed to get her mind off babies.

“No thanks. I’m full.” She cleaned her mouth with a napkin. “Did you put babies in Mrs. Fuentes’s tummy and Angel’s?”

I’d just taken a drink of coffee and nearly choked on it. I coughed, hitting my chest with my hand. “God, no.”

“Then who did?”

I cleared my throat several times.

“Are you okay, Daddy?”

“Yeah. My coffee went down the wrong pipe.”

“Oh.” She watched me expectantly.

“Only a husband puts a baby in his wife’s tummy.”

“But you’re not Mommy’s husband.” She frowned. “Are you going to marry her?”

Christ, Abe. Stopping digging yourself into a deeper hole.

“Yes, I’m going to marry her.”

“When?”

“So many questions.” I gently pinched her chin. “On the first snowfall, we’ll get married.” Being mid-June, winter was four months away. It felt like an eternity to wait before I could make Karma my wife. She’d probably be pregnant by then at the rate we were fucking, multiple times a day.

Nova’s shimmering gray eyes widened. “Ooh, I like that. Does Mommy know yet?”

“I’m not sure.” I collected the plates off the table. “But I think she’ll be all for it.”

“I’m glad you’re my daddy and not Stein.” She took the cups and put them on the counter.

“Me too.”

Nova would always be my child, and I’d do everything in my power to keep her safe, but I wouldn’t be worth shit without her mother.

Karma and I stood proudly at Nova’s sides as everyone sang happy birthday to her. My parents and siblings were naturally there, along with Lynx and Jaynee. They’d brought Sadie and a special surprise guest: Grayson.

When Nova saw her classmate, she’d ran to him and kissed his cheek. I almost lost it. The three of them played on a bounce house Uncle Hustler had rented. It earned him the title of Funnest Uncle Ever.

Clapping and cheering erupted.

“Blow out the candles, birthday girl,” Lady M told her. “And make a wish!”

“Okay!” Nova smiled up at me, then at her mom. She inhaled a big breath then blew them out all at once.
