Momma hopped to her feet and kissed my temple. “Make her listen,” she whispered, then went to serve my brother.

No chance on God’s green earth I’d give up on Karma. Family meant everything to the Knights, and to me. If I didn’t want a future with Karma, I’d unleash holy hell on her. I had tried to hold back my anger and keep a level head to not scare her off. It wasn’t easy every time I thought of Nova.

If Nova wasn’t mine and some other dude had gotten Karma pregnant, I didn’t think I could come back from it. Not once had I wrapped up my dick when we had sex. I’d been actively trying to get her pregnant. We both had wanted a baby. She was going to be my old lady, my wife—we were supposed to have been together forever.

I ground my back teeth, getting worked up.

The love I had felt for Karma wasn’t the ordinary kind. It was thecrazykind, where she had been my lifeline, the stabilizing factor in my universe. I couldn’t breathe without her. After she disappeared, I had died inside.

Knowing Karma was within reach drove me mad. I was still crazy in love with her, even though at the same time I was pissed and hated her for leaving me without letting me explain—and for fuckin’ with my Harley.

“Fuck.” Lady M was right. I needed to make Karma listen anyway I could. No more waiting or being Mr. Nice Guy, not that I ever could be. I had given her a couple of weeks of quiet, now the time had come to amp up the pressure.

“Everything all right, brother?” Buff sat across from me.

Dammit, had I said fuck out loud?

“Remembered I had something important to take care of.” I glanced at Lady M. She issued me a nod of approval.

Buff observed my plate of uneaten food but didn’t say anything.

My little sister’s carefree footsteps bounded down the stairs. I checked the time on my phone. Piper wasn’t usually an early riser on the weekend. She was fully dressed and not sporting a messy bedhead when she appeared. My little sister was the spitting image of Lady M.

“Morning, baby girl. What’s got you up early on a Saturday?” Lady M hugged her. Those two were thick as thieves.

I wondered if Karma and Nova were as close. I hoped they were.

“Emilee had her baby girl last night. I woke up to a text.” Piper spun around to face the breakfast table. “I was hoping one of my brothers could fly me out to see her and the baby.” She displayed a lethal set of puppy-dog eyes. “Or can I drive myself?”

“Sorry, sis. I’ll be out collecting today.” Buff and a prospect would spend half the day collecting protection payments from businesses on the northside of town. He did this once a week, sometimes not in the most pleasant way.

Gang thefts and violence have always been prevalent in Fargo. We couldn’t stop the development of new crews in our territory, which was all of North Dakota. We had three charters, one in the northern part of the state and on the east and west sides. Each one had four members to patrol and monitor their area. Given that my father, brothers, and I were all certified pilots, we could get to any one of our charters within a couple of hours when needed.

“Cobra, what about you?” Piper made praying hands. “Will you take me? It doesn’t have to be this weekend or an all-day trip. In fact, we could go Monday or Tuesday. Really any day next week. I just want to see Emilee and the baby. You know how Ilovebabies, and I haven’t seen Em since before Christmas.”

Lady M went behind Piper, nodding. No pressure, right? I wasn’t sure about taking my sister to Bastion. What if Karma was at the compound with Nova? Piper would flip, then word would spread through my club like wildfire. I wasn’t ready for my family to be up in my business.

“Or I could ask Micah.” Piper sipped her coffee.

“I’ll take you. I have some things to discuss with Storm anyway.” I was totally lying. Anything I needed to talk to Storm about could be done over the phone. I only agreed to take her because I didn’t want Bone anywhere near Karma.

“Excellent! Thank you.” Piper served herself some breakfast with a bright smile to rival the sun.

“Don’t forget about the party tonight for Hustler’s return,” Buff told me. “He texted saying he’d be home by supper.”

I drained my cup of joe.

“I’m making all his favorites,” Lady M said.

“Don’t spoil him. He’s a grown-ass man.” I scratched the back of my head in irritation. Lady M wasn’t doing any favors by treating us like babies. Then again, what in the hell had I done to move out of my parents’ house?

Absolutely nothing.

There was a level of comfort living under the shelter of their umbrella. Chicks I hooked up with never came to my place. I could enjoy the physicality of being with someone, then leave them.

But Karma had changed everything, which was why I’d been working on my house.

Mom clicked her tongue. “Don’t tell me how to mother my children. When you’re a father, you’ll know what I’m talking about.”
