I felt bad for taking her away from school. If it weren’t for Stein showing up at her school, I wouldn’t have. My little girl should be able to finish out the school year with her friends. Next year, she’d attend school in Fargo.

“That sounds like so much fun,” Lady M said. “Abe, when do you plan to take them back to Bastion?”

“After supper.”

Karma whipped her head in my direction. “I thought—”

“I know.” I rubbed Karma’s thigh. “It’ll be okay. I don’t want Nova missing the last days of school with her classmates.”

“And then what happens after school is out?” my mom asked. I sensed she was trying to find out about Karma and me.

“They’re moving in with me.”

“Well, I need to talk to Art about the tattoo shop.” Karma furrowed her brow. “I’m the only tattooist at the moment.”

“But you are moving in with me.”

She gripped my hand. “Yes, we’re moving in with you.”

“That’s wonderful,” Mom said. “I’ll plan a barbeque to celebrate.”

“I love ribs. Mommy and I can eat a lot of them. Right, Mom?”

“Right.”

“Then I’ll put ribs on the menu just for my best girl.” Lady M kissed Nova’s head. She’d gotten in several, and Nova didn’t seem to mind. I had to admit, I was envious of how quickly Nova warmed up to my mom and sister.

Maybe it was because they were girls. Or because they hadn’t lied to her.

I just wanted my little girl to accept me as her dad and stop calling me Abe. I should be more patient. She only found out about me yesterday.

I patted Karma’s leg. “I’m gonna call Storm. See if he found out anything on Stein.”

“Okay.” She lifted off my lap.

I dropped a kiss on her lips then went out onto the front porch. After the shit with Bone and Spectre earlier, I was tense as fuck. I needed my woman to let me work out my frustrations in the bedroom or against a tree. It didn’t really matter where I fucked her. I just needed her loving.

“Cobra, how’s it going?” Storm answered.

“Going all right. Any word on Stein?”

“I figured that’s what you were calling about. No. No sign of him.”

“Shit.” I scrubbed my hand down my cheek. “I was thinking of bringing my girls back tonight so Nova could go to school.”

“I can put prospects at the school and Karma’s house.”

“I can hang around the school too. I just can’t be in two places at one time. Karma would probably want to work.” My stubborn woman would demand it if she was in town.

“Ire isn’t far from the parlor. If Karma’s working, Ava will be too, which means Ire is patrolling the area.”

“True. I hadn’t thought of that.”

“Just let me know what you decide.”

“Will do. Talk to ya later.” I ended the call, then dialed Buff.

“Yo.”
