Letting Levi into my private life and space was unprecedented.

First for everything, right?

“It’s not much.” I turned the doorknob. Mercy’s car was here, so I knew she would be inside.

“I’m not here to judge you.”

“And why are you here?” I grimaced when he narrowed his platinum-gray eyes. “Sorry. This is new for me.”

“Hope?” Mercy flung open the door. “Oh honey, how are you feeling?” She took my arm and led me inside. “I want you to get comfy on the sofa or your bed and not move for the rest of the weekend.

“Jeez, overprotective much?” I pulled my arm away from her. “I need a shower.”

“Well, I suppose you can get clean.” She turned toward Levi. “Hey, how’s it going?”

“Good.” He laced his fingers with mine. “Show me your bedroom.”

“Um, why?”

“So we can talk in private.”

“Oh. I’d really like to take a shower first. I’ll be quick.” I pointed to the door on the left. “That’s my bedroom. Mercy’s is on the right.” I went into mine to get fresh clothes.

Levi followed. “Do you need help?”

I cut my gaze at him. “Help to take a shower? No, I think I can manage.”

“You’re concussed, Hope. I’m not being a pervert. You could get dizzy and fall.”

“Are all the bikers in your club as protective as you?” I studied him for a long second. He sure was pretty to look at.

His hair was tousled on the top, a mess of dark waves falling over his left eye. I loved to run my fingers through it when he slept after having sex.

“I don’t know. My brother Cobra seems to be with his old lady and daughter. My dad was with my mom.” He shrugged. “I’m just me.”

“Hmm.”

“Hmm? What’s that mean?”

“Nothing. Just… hmm.” I got a T-shirt, my favorite lounging shorts, and a pair of panties. “I’ll be out soon.”

“Don’t lock the door.”

“Sure.” I rolled my eyes, but I found his attentiveness adorable.

I stripped out of my clothes in the bathroom and threw them in a pile on the linoleum. Finally, I could wash off the hospital germs, then sleep.

Yes, sleep. Not that I hadn’t considered asking Levi to give me one of his epic orgasms. I had, but I didn’t have the energy or desire, even if he was the best I’d ever fucked.

I couldn’t believe he was in my bedroom, waiting for me.

The hot water felt incredible as I stepped under the showerhead. Closing my eyes, I thought of Levi and the three times we hooked up. He wasn’t like other guys I’d been with over the years. Levi had a warmth in his gray eyes, a glimmer of humanity I rarely saw in most people. He cared about making me feel good. Unfortunately, his interest had stopped there. It had been the way I wanted it.

No kissing.

No names.

No more than hooking up.
