“Yes, as his old lady, you must respect him and the club and protect them at all costs. You don’t speak out against him in public or share what you know that goes on within with anyone else. Snitches are dealt with firmly.”

“Oh, I’m not a snitch, and I don’t gossip. I do respect Levi very much. I’d never do anything to harm him or anyone else.”

Lady M studied my face. “I can see why he’s in love with you.”

“Really?” Her words made me suck in a breath. He hadn’t formally said, I love you. “I have to admit, everythings happened really fast.”

“It usually does when it’s right.”

“Can I get you something to drink?” I stood, feeling my face blush.

“Whatever you’re having is fine.”

We fell into easy conversation, mainly about Levi, his siblings, and the Knight’s Legion Motorcycle Club. Lady M clearly adored her children and made it known there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. I would’ve loved to have had a mother like her.

She had this way of putting me at ease, but she never sugarcoated anything. She told me the MC life can be dangerous and violent and shared a little bit of the goings-on in the Minnesota chapter. I hung on her every word, completely riveted.

“I only share this so you know what you’re signing up for. I sense Levi kept a lot from you because he was afraid you’d walk away.”

“He definitely didn’t go into detail, but he did tell me awful stuff has happened, and I’d have a target on my back if I was with him.”

“And you’re okay with the danger and being in the dark.”

“Am I okay with it?” I inhaled and exhaled a heavy breath. “I’m not sure. What if I’m not strong enough to deal with the grit?”

“You’ve seen a lot working in the ER, haven’t you?”

“Well, yes. Stabbings, shootings, death. None of that bothers me. I’m there to do a job, to help save lives.”

Lady M took my hand. “Then you’re strong enough. There’s also a lot of good being part of an MC family like the Knight’s Legion. Someone always has your back. The old ladies are like a built-in friend group—a tribe. Our men will protect us with their life.”

“Wow.”

“Yes, We are loyal and protective. Family means everything to us.”

“I’ve never had a family.”

“You do now.”

Love, loyalty, and family were all the things I’d dreamed of having.

How did I get so lucky finding Levi and his incredible family?

“So you really liked them? Lady M didn’t scare you off? She can be scary sometimes.” I laughed nervously, trying to read Hope’s expression while I drove on the frontage road toward the casino.

“You’re parents are great. I liked them. Sure there were some tense moments while you and your dad were outside.”

“Really?”

“Mhm.” She licked her ice cream cone. I forced myself to not watch her tongue. “She wanted to let me know what went on in the club and the dangers. She didn’t scare me off if that’s what you’re afraid of.”

“I’m glad to hear it. I don’t want to lose you.” No chance in hell I could ever let her go. “Neither of you.” I put my hand on her stomach.

“Wow, is that it? It’s huge.”
