I hoped she wasn’t. I had lots of plans for tonight.

“Baby, that was phenomenal. Are you tired?” I brushed a section of her blonde hair off her face and kissed her sweet lips.

“Yes. Wow. That was…epic.”

“You did come hard, baby. It was like the orgasm started in your toes.”

“I think it did.” She rolled onto her side to face me.

Interesting. Hope’s orgasms were powerful and explosive when she was pregnant with Cherish.

“I know what you’re thinking, Levi.” She rubbed my chest, swirling her nails on my skin.

“What am I thinking, Hope?”

“Nope, you tell me,” she said in a playful tone.

“Okay. Cherish will be turning five in a few months.”

“Yes.”

I didn’t want to get my hopes up. We’d talked about having another baby several times over the past couple of years. Hope was never sure she was ready. She had nothing to worry about. Motherhood had come naturally to her despite her awful childhood. When the doctor put Cherish in Hope’s arms, it changed her—for the better. She was an incredible mom. Loving and caring. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for our daughter.

“Hope?”

“Yes, Levi.”

“Are you ready to have another baby?”

“No, Levi.”

“No?” My heart plummeted.

“We are having another baby.” She smiled, scrunching her nose. “I wanted to surprise you.”

“I’m surprised.” I tugged her into my arms. “Very surprised and happy.”

“I’m so glad.” She yawned and rested her head on my chest. “Cherish is going to be over the moon.”

“Yes, she will be. I’m guessing you’re tuckered out. Pregnancy hormones and all that.”

“Mhm. Let’s sleep for a while, then maybe we can go again.”

Yeah, that wasn’t happening. I pulled the blanket over us, cuddled her close, and kissed her head. Another baby. I couldn’t wait. Maybe we’d get a boy next.

“Goodnight, Hope.”
