“You’re a great girl, Reign. Sassy and pretty. It’s Keg who’s the waste of—” He shut his mouth as if catching himself before insulting his uncle. “Why do you push his buttons?” He glared at me with a steely glint. “An old lady should know her place.” And just like that, he changed his tune and defended Keg.

“You jerk. I’m not his old lady. I’m a prisoner, here against my will. Just leave. I don’t need anything.” I rolled away from him, curling into a ball.

“I’m only a prospect and his nephew. I can’t do shit for you. Keg will kill me if I betray him.”

“Don’t act like you care. If you were president, you wouldn’t do a damn thing differently.”

“I would.”

“Liar. Just go.”

“Fine.”

I listened for the door to close. So much for getting RJ’s help.

I’d just have to help myself.

Buff

My shoulders were hard as the concrete block walls in the meeting room. I folded my hands and placed them on the nothing-special table to avoid fidgeting. Above Cobra’s head were pictures of old warbirds my granddad flew in the army. From my vantage point, I had a perfect view. They had occupied my attention during dozens of meetings over the years… like now.

My brother slammed the mallet on the table, calling church to order. Seven of us were in the room, including my dad, and Bone was on speaker. The only non-blood-related person sitting at the table was Stitch. It didn’t matter if he had different parents. He was our brother.

“Let’s get started. As most of you know, Buff is going to South Dakota Monday.” Cobra didn’t waste time getting straight to the point of this meeting. “I’m not thrilled about it.”

“Jeez.” I threw my hands up in the air.

“I didn’t know about this.” Bone sounded annoyed. “What’s in South Dakota?”

“Oh, that’s right. You missed Thanksgiving, so you’re in the dark. Too bad.” Cobra raised his beer to his lips and gulped.

“I’m here now. Fill me in.” Surprisingly, Bone didn’t lash out or get defensive.

“Stick to business.” Dad pointed at Cobra. Now wasn’t the time for Cobra to get on Bone for missing Lady M’s favorite holiday. But I understood my brother’s feelings. When it came to our mother, nobody got away with making her sad. Bone would have to answer to the rest of us, just not today.

“Tell him.” Prez cut his eyes at me.

“Reign is mixed in with the Hell’s Bells MC. I need to get her out.”

“And you’re going alone?” Bone’s voice raised, showing his disapproval. “Cobra, you can’t let him go alone. They aren’t known for being reasonable. They won’t have a sit down with Buff.”

“Yeah, I know who the fuck they are. But I’m sure you know I don’t have men to spare with FF still roaming the streets.” Cobra had to take a dig at Bone. They’d made a little progress after the shit in Montana, but I wouldn’t say they were on good terms.

“If you didn’t want me in Montana, you should’ve said. Dad, what do you think?” Bone asked.

“I don’t have men to spare,” Cobra growled before our old man could reply. Eyebrows raised around the table. “Storm’s sending a couple of his guys to meet Buff.” Cobra finished off his beer, taking a moment to cool off.

My brothers and I sat in silence. Cobra could be a hothead. I sure as hell didn’t want him to lash out at me for causing more problems. He could order me to not go after Reign. Would I listen? No way.

Cobra wasn’t an asshole prez like some. He knew how I felt about Reign. He also knew Bone wasn’t happy in Fargo, so he let him go. Although, he wouldn’t have approved of him heading up the new chapter if he didn’t believe he could handle it. Cobra had told me his only issue was the timing. We had our hands full with the Faceless Frat. Until our territory was free of them, Cobra didn’t want to think about anything else. Hence his anger with me leaving tomorrow.

“Did you call David?” Bone asked in an even tone. “It’s his territory. He should send help.”

“Really?” Cobra snapped. “Don’t you think I’d do that if it were an option? Storm asked me not to involve his dad.”

“I don’t understand. Why not?”
