“I don’t want anything to do with him or his club. They’re outlaws. Criminals!” He whipped his hand out of hers.

“Damn straight I am. And if you hadn’t pushed Reign to go out of state for school, she’d be safe. I would’ve ensured no one hurt her and protected her with my life. I would kill for her.” I stood and went to the front door to get my boots. I’d had enough of this jerk.

“See, Alondra? He’s vile,” Bill said, disdain dripping from each word. “Let the punk biker go.”

If I didn’t get out of there fast, I would put my fist in his stupid mouth. Bill had never tried to get to know me. On the surface, he seemed like a stand-up guy who had his crap together.

“Please don’t go.” Alondra ignored her husband and followed me. “No one will help us. Reign needs you.”

“Yeah, so why didn’t you come to me sooner?” I shoved my foot into my boot. “If you were so worried about youronlydaughter, why didn’t you come to me sooner?” I shouted, doing my best to not lose my shit on her.

“Because Bill wouldn’t let me.” Tears rained down her face. “I wanted to go to your parent’s farm. I begged him to let me. I shouldn’t have listened to him. Please help me.”

Bill stormed out of the room.

Rage rushed through my veins, seeing red. “Why wouldn’t he let you call me?”

“Pride.” She moved toward me and whispered, “And shame.”

I raised a curious brow.

“When we couldn’t afford to pay for Reign’s college tuition, he got desperate. He would do anything to keep her out of Fargo… out of the state.” Shame crossed her face. “You know he’s a good man, Jonah. He lost his mind for a bit, but by the time he realized his mistakes, it was too late.”

“How far did he go?” Jesus, I couldn’t imagine what a dull, family man like Bill could get into.

“Gambling.”

I shook my head. “He hasn’t been in Aeros. I’d know the minute Reign’s relatives entered my club.”

“He went to South Dakota to play in an underground poker club. He’d been on a winning streak. Got cocky increasing his bets, then he lost one night. And lost again and again. He had to get a second mortgage on our house to pay his debt.”

“Pride comes before the fall.” My mom’s words shot out of my mouth unbidden.

“It does.”

“But how can he be so stupid? This is Reign we’re talking about. His only daughter.”

“None of it matters.” She gripped my bicep. “Will you help find her? I will be forever indebted to you if you can find her.”

“Oh, I’ll find her, and you won’t owe me anything. See? I might be a biker who does unsavory shit, but I don’t hurt the innocent. And I’d do anything for Reign.”

“I know you love her.” A tear rolled down her face.

I gave her a sharp nod, opened the door, and left. The crisp November air felt refreshing on my hot face as I headed to my truck.

“Thank you, Jonah. Thank you so much!”

I didn’t respond to Alondra. She shouldn’t thank me yet. I doubted she’d appreciate me keeping her daughter from her.

Once I found Reign, I’d never let her go. The only bed she’d ever sleep in would be mine.

I took my phone out in the truck and typed a quick message for Cobra.

Buff: Making a quick run to see Storm

Cobra: Did you collect today?

I winced.
