“Mhm.”

“We won’t be long.” He kissed me. “Take care of my girl, Lady M.”

“Absolutely.”

I glanced around the room, feeling a little exposed. All eyes were on me. Spectre, Stitch, and Hustler hugged me on their way to church. They probably hated me for breaking up with Jonah.

“Why do you have bruises on your face?” Nova asked.

Her question made me choke on my drink.

Buff

Cobra hit the gavel on the table in the den, which had become his temporary office. He spent most of his time at the farm where his girls were. I couldn’t blame him for wanting to be close to his pregnant wife and little girl while our area wasn’t safe. I’d be the same way.

“I spoke to Storm. As you probably know, he’s not happy.”

“No surprise there.” I reached for a shot glass and the whiskey in the center of the table. “When is Storm ever happy.” I tossed back my drink.

“Not often,” Hustler snorted.

“Exactly.” I raised another shot to my lips. The amber-colored liquid warmed my insides and soothed my nerves.

“Grizzly and Toby are trying to find out what happened after you left them for dead.” Cobra turned toward Bone. “You’re the VP. You should’ve taken control of the situation.”

“I wasn’t with Buff, Prez,” Bone hissed. “They’d left the bar just as planned. Who gives a fuck what happened to either of them? They’re Hell’s Bells… Nothing but a waste of oxygen.”

“I agree,” Spectre said.

“Storm cares,” Cobra growled. “He seems to care a lot. I don’t understand why, and I don’t need to. He’s our cousin, our blood. We support him just as we would each other.” He cut his gaze at me. “What has Reign told you about Keg?”

“Only that he’ll go after her family now that she’s gone. He used their safety as a means to manipulate her to stay put. She’s terrified of what he’ll do to them. I told her we’d protect them.”

Cobra narrowed his eyes. “We already have our hands full.”

“That’s why I should bring them to the farm. It’s only her parents and Granny.” I wouldn’t let Cobra overrule me on this. I promised Reign the club would protect her family, and we would, whether Cobra liked it or not.

“I’m not buying that he manipulated Reign. There must be more for her to stay with him.” Cobra thrummed his fingers on his glass.

“Like what?”

“Like maybe she wanted to stay and is just lying.” Spectre, Mr. Negativity. He believed everyone had an angle, was shady, and was untrustworthy. He and Bone were one and the same. “Reign’s a strong woman. Nobody makes her do anything she doesn’t want to do. She left you, didn’t she?”

Motherfucker. Why did he go there?

“He has a point.” Cobra considered me from across the table. “Maybe Keg got a tip you were coming, and Reign’s leading him right to us.”

“Yeah, and we’re just sitting ducks,” Spectre said through his clenched teeth.

“What the actual fuck?” I vaulted out of my seat. “If Keg knew we were coming, there must be a rat in our club. But that’s not the case. I’m sure he’s dead.”

“Son, sit down,” my old man said. “Need to keep a level head.”

“Oh sure, like those two assholes?”

“Watch it.” Cobra pointed his finger at me. The dick didn’t scare me. I’d have him flat on his back in two seconds.
