“Whatever.” Bone jerked his chin at Easton to get out of the SUV.

I opened my door.

Two loud booms had Bone and me taking cover behind my truck.

“What the fuck!” Bone shouted.

Mayhem broke out in the parking lot. Women screamed. People clamored to get out of the burning building.

“Bill must still be inside.” I searched for him. “I don’t see him. I’m going in.”

“No, you’re not.”

“Yes, I am. I’m the only one who knows what he looks like.”

“Cobra sent me pictures. I showed Easton. But all three of us can’t go in at once. Someone has to stay out here in case he comes out.”

“You two decide which one will stay.” I ran toward the exit, dialing into the sirens off in the distance. I should try to help evacuate people, but Bill was my priority. I needed to find him and get him to safety for Reign.

“Buff, you crazy son of a bitch!” Bone hollered from behind me. “Cobra said not to go off half-cocked.”

“This is an emergency. People are injured inside. Bill could be one of them.”

The call center was large. Judging by the number of cars in the parking lot, there had to be at least a hundred or more people here.

“We stay together, you hear me?” Bone grabbed my arm. “We don’t know what we’re running into. We gotta stick together.”

“Got it. Be careful.”

“You too.”

We pulled our tee shirts over our mouths and noses before we entered the burning building.

Reign

I held my granny’s boney, arthritic hand, assuring her I was okay. She didn’t believe me and kept asking, “Who did this to you?”

“Mom, you’re tired. Let Reign and I help you to bed.”

We’d been sitting in the family room for the past twenty minutes after they finished eating and visiting with Lady M. Karma had gone upstairs to give Nova a bath and put her to bed. The men had been hiding somewhere. Hope told me they had a man cave in the back. It must’ve been new because I don’t remember it.

“Fine, fine, fine. I know you’re trying to get rid of me so you can talk,” Granny grumbled.

“You’re always in bed by seven thirty, Mom.”

“At my house, I watch my shows in bed.” She put one hand on the arm of the sofa and held my hand as we hoisted her up.

How would we get her up the stairs? She moved so slowly. It might take a full hour to put Granny to bed. Jonah would be home with my dad in tow well before we were done.

My dad wouldn’t be happy to see Jonah at his work. What if he refused to leave with Jonah? I’d bet my left kidney that he told Jonah to fuck off.

“Okay, Mom. We’ll take it slow.” My mom grimaced at me.

“Maybe I should sleep on the sofa,” Granny said.

“But they want us in Jonah’s room,” my mom told her.
