Georgia just lifted an eyebrow.

“Will y’all stay here with me?”

Claire finally cracked a smile. “A slumber party?”

“I just want y’all here, you know,” Mary Catherine said, her chin a bit wobbly.

That meant Georgia couldn’t spend one more night with Reed. She didn’t want to stay at the Double H. She wanted to lie next to Reed, listening to his heart slow after playing cowboy and Choctaw princess with him. She wanted to wake up with her butt snug against his morning erection, feel his hand cupping her breast, and his dog thumping a “good morning” with his tail.

Not fair.

“George?”

“Fine,” she said.

Mary Catherine laughed. “I can see right through you.”

Georgia twisted her lips. “So I won’t get laid? I can go without it for a night. For you.”

Mary Catherine picked up a chip and contemplated. “I love you guys.”

Claire reached over and gave Mary Catherine a hug then looked up at George. “Hey.”

Georgia struggled up from her chair, winding her long arms around her friends, squeezing them both, loving the warmth that flooded her.

“All for one,” Mary Catherine said.

“One for all,” Claire said.

“And anyone against us can eat shit and die,” Georgia finished.

They all laughed, breaking the hug and high-fiving, the same way they’d done from the day they arrived back from Camp Winnekoba.

Reed waitedwhile Georgia checked out of the Imperial Hotel, idling out front in his truck, feeling like a guy on his first date, itchy, nervous, and plain scared about what was about to unfold.

He was going balls out and asking Georgia to consider staying in Texas.

Yeah, he’d gone crazy... for her.

Never in a million years, in all those homemade movies he’d created in his head, had he imagined someone like Georgia as the faceless woman playing the part of Mrs. Reed McCormick. Not that he was ready for marriage. But he wanted her to stay. The thought of her leaving felt like a pallet of bricks sitting on his chest.

He had no idea what her response would be. Probably an emphatic no, but he had to ask. If she wanted to continue the relationship long-distance, he could take some vacation and go east to visit her, but it wouldn’t be the same as having her beside him. He supposed he could look for a job in Boston, but something inside told him Georgia belonged in the Lone Star State... even if she didn’t know it yet.

The door to the hotel opened, and Georgia walked out, pulling her luggage, wearing a bright-yellow dress that hugged every curve and showed off mile-high legs. She tapped down toward him in her high heels, a smile curving those delicious lips.

His damn heart skipped a beat.

“Hi-ya, Cowboy,” she said, hefting her bag inside before he could hop out and be a gentleman.

“Let me get that for you,” he said, opening the door.

“No, I’m perfectly capable,” she said.

“Why do you have your suitcase?”

“I’m staying at Mary Catherine’s tonight,” she said, sliding inside, flipping down the visor and checking her hair and makeup in the mirror.
