“To stay here because I belong with you,” she whispered, her brown eyes sheened with tears. “Ask me to be the woman you’ve fantasized about all these years. Ask me to be the one you wake up with each morning and go to bed with each night. Ask me to stay with you.”

His heart felt as if it beat in his throat, and though he would never, ever admit to anyone else it was possible, his eyes filled with tears of relief.

Georgia wanted to stay with him.

“Okay, I’ll ask, but first you have to tell me why I should ask.”

She nodded. “That’s fair. So I walked away from you, knowing I was the stupidest idiot this side of the Brazos. I sat through a rehearsal dinner with everyone talking about love and commitment and felt like shit. Then I went down to the river with MC and Claire and thought about what I really and truly wanted out of life. And all that crap I’d planned didn’t mean a damn thing if I didn’t have someone beside me, if I didn’t have you.”

Thunk, thunk, thunk.

This time it was his heart beating in his ears.

Here and now was the moment he’d always remember. Here was the moment when love became real and the future he’d wanted rested in the palm of his hand.

Georgia walked toward him, placing her hands on his chest. “What I’m saying is that I was wrong. I want to stay here with you. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’ve fallen in love with you, incredible as it seems. I’m not questioning it, I’m just—”

He cut off her words with a kiss.

It wasn’t the best kiss he’d ever given her, but it was the sweetest, filled with every grateful fiber of his being.

Georgia loved him and wasn’t leaving.

Breaking the kiss, she tilted her head back. “So does that mean you’re not mad at me anymore?”

He shook his head. “It means I love you, too, and I’m ready to start my forever with you in it. But—”

“But?”

“You’ll have to make it up to me.” He grinned, sliding his hands down to cup her magnificent ass.

“Oh, I do, do I?”

“Yeah, you do. I almost cried into my beer after you dumped me, and since I didn’t get to go to the rehearsal dinner at El Dorado, I had to eat a cheeseburger with Mojo.”

Georgia flexed her fingers and shrugged her shoulders up and down before slapping her hands together. “It’s a deal. This will be the sweetest makeup sex you’ll ever have.”

He looped his arms around her, drawing her to him. “Thank you, Georgia. We have a lot to work through, but I’ve never been so sure in my life that you were made for me.”

“Never knew what you were getting when you stopped your truck that day, huh?”

He caught her lips in a soft kiss. “Only took a few minutes and an emergency breech birth to understand how special you were.”

Georgia settled her head on his shoulder. “You said it was fate, remember? Fate set me in front of you.”

“Yeah, I did,” he said, kissing her again before pulling back and whispering, “Welcome home, Georgia.”
