She laughed again. “Because if you want to talk about weddings, she’s your girl.”

Jacob laughed with her. “Anything to get on my mother-in-law’s good side. Maybe we should invite them to fly back with us.”

“No way!”

“No?”

“No! Maybe we can invite them to visit at spring break, but I don’t want them to come home with us now.” She looked down at the ring and then smiled up at him. “I want to take my new fiancé home and do some more baby-making practice.”

“I like the sound of that.”

“Me, too.” She took one last look back at all the cornflowers and then grabbed a handful of them with a smile. “They dry well and don’t even lose their color. I’m going to keep these forever.”

Jacob went and collected a few of them, too.

She laughed. “You’re going to dry your own flowers?”

“No. I want to give my tailor a head’s up on what color ties I want in the future.”

“Aww.”

“And I’m going to tell the groundskeeper that I want every driveway on the estate lined with these blooming by spring.”

“Aww, Jacob. You really are awesome, you know. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”

He hugged her tight to his chest and pressed one last kiss to her lips before they went back to the house to share their news with her family.

“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Becca.”

He knew that he’d never spoken a truer word – and that she’d keep making his life better for all the years to come;
