“I should maybe agree to that – go along with whatever I think you might be comfortable with, just to get you to agree. But I already told you that I won’t lie to you. I’m not offering to rent you a room. I’m asking you to come and stay here with me – tobewith me.”

“Oh.” He was relieved when she smiled.

“What?”

“Honestly? I didn’t even dare to imagine that was what you meant.”

He smiled. “That’s what I mean. What do you say?”

Her cheeks turned pink. “It’s far too soon for one thing. And for another thing you don’t even know – we don’t know … we haven’t even spent one night together. It … I … we might not ...”

He closed his arms around her. He knew what she meant, but he didn’t think they had any worries there. “I already told you that I don’t want to miss you tonight. I asked you to stay here with me. Do you still want to do that?”

He felt her nod against his chest. “Okay then. So, how about in the morning, you tell me if you’re still worried about it?”

He felt her chuckle. “You’re pretty confident that I won’t be, aren’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Me too.”

“Good.”

He tucked his fingers under her chin and made her look up at him. “I know this is hardly conventional, but I don’t see anything wrong with it. You want to stay in Napa. I don’t want you to leave. I’d like to think that we would have gotten to the point where you were spending most of your time here with me anyway. This is just speeding things up a bit.”

She nodded.

“And if things don’t work out between you and me, you can have one of the workers’ cottages until the school year ends. I don’t want to think that it’ll work out that way, but I need you to know that if you come here, it’s not dependent on you being with me. If you decide that you don’t want me, you’ll still have a place to live. Okay?”

She looked up into his eyes, and what he saw in hers made his heart swell in his chest. “You’re kind of awesome, aren’t you?”

He chuckled. “I don’t know about that. But I do know that I’m not ready to let you go yet.”

When she reached up and pressed a kiss to his lips, he had the feeling that he wasn’t ever going to want to let her go.

Becca loved the way the last of the evening sun bathed the vineyards. It was such a beautiful sight as they walked back from the garage. It was so beautiful it looked like something out of a movie. But then everything about this felt like something out of a movie.

Jacob was holding her hand as they walked. She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. He looked like the hero from some romantic movie. He wasn’t wearing a suit today, but he looked just as hot – if not even hotter – in jeans and a black polo shirt. He was definitely the bigshot businessman that she’d thought him to be, but he was so much more than that, too. He was awesome.

She looked up at the house. He wanted her to stay here with him? She sucked in a deep breath. It was crazy!

He squeezed her hand. “You’re awfully quiet.”

“Yeah. I’m just … I’m trying to take it all in. I mean, it’s so kind of you to ask but …” She shook her head. She couldn’t wrap her head around it.

He smiled through pursed lips. “It’s not kind, Becca. I’m being selfish.”

She raised her eyebrows.

“I am. I already told you. I don’t want you to leave Napa. I want you to stay – here in town, and here with me.”

He caught her gaze and held it. “You’re not having second thoughts about staying tonight, are you?”

“No.” That was one decision she’d already made. She so wanted to spend the night with him. If it made her a bad person that she knew she wanted to sleep with him even though she wasn’t sure if she should take up his offer to come and stay here with him, then so be it. But she’d spent so many nights thinking about him while she lay in her own bed, that there was no way she was going to turn down the invitation to spend the night in his bed.

He smiled through pursed lips.
