That made him smile, and he went back to her and took hold of her hands. “Tell me more.”

She gave him a puzzled look. “What do you mean?”

He chuckled. “You’re trying to turn me on, aren’t you? Telling me that you like to pack in advance. What other sexy little traits do you have?”

She laughed out loud at that. “Oh my goodness! Are you the same? I guess you must be considering that you even thought to bring me a vase to put the roses in. I thought I was making a confession when I told you that. My roommate used to tell me it was weird.”

“It’s not weird. Although, my sister, Willow, will no doubt tell you that it is. That’s what she tells me, anyway. To me, it’s efficient. I like forward planning and being organized.”

“Ooh!” She laughed and gave a mock shiver. “Talk dirty to me.”

He had to laugh. He couldn’t remember joking around with a woman like this before. “Now do you believe me that spreadsheets just do it for me?”

She laughed with him. “I believe I do. And I love it.”

Bentley’s breath caught in his chest. For a moment there he thought she was saying I loveyou. That was crazy thinking, and it would be even crazier talk – if she’d said it, but she hadn’t.

“What do you want me to do, then? Is there anything left that I can help you with? Would you like to go out to dinner, or would you rather order something in? Tell me what you want, and I’ll make it happen.”

The look in her eyes told him what she wanted even before she opened her mouth. “There is something I’d like you to do for me.”

He couldn’t keep the smile off his face as he stepped closer to her. “Want to tell me about it?”

“I think I’d rather show you.” She reached for his hand and led him to the bedroom.

It was true that he wanted their relationship to be about more than sex, but he was glad that she was showing less restraint than he was. He might’ve thought it best to wait, but she was proving him wrong. This felt like the perfect move.

As she led him into the bedroom, Alyssa started to second-guess herself. He’d said that he wanted them to be about more than sex. Yet here she was, dragging him into her lair anyway.

She let go of his hand and gave him an apologetic smile. “I just need to …” She pointed at the bathroom and then hurried in there. She rested her hands on the vanity and looked at herself in the mirror over the sink.

She wasn’t nervous about him; it was more that she didn’t want to give him the wrong impression. She might have told him that first night at The Boathouse that she wasn’t the kind of girlwho went out looking for sex. But given her behavior since, he could be forgiven for thinking that was exactly who she was.

She ran the faucet and splashed cold water onto her face. She didn’t need to go spoiling it now. She could go back out there and laugh and joke with him. Whether they ended up just having fun hanging out for a while first or whether they jumped each other’s bones straight away, it didn’t really matter. They were good with each other. She was just overthinking; it was a bad habit, and she couldn’t let it get in the way of things with Bentley.

As she was drying her face, there was a knock at the door. “Hang on, I’m coming out now.”

When she opened the door, he was standing there smiling at her. “Are you okay?”

His gorgeous blue eyes held a touch of concern, but she saw understanding in them too. She gave him a rueful smile. “I’m fine. I may have freaked myself out for a minute there, but it was only a tiny bit and just for a moment. How did you know?”

He shrugged. “I wish I could tell you, but I can’t. It seems that we just understand each other.”

That made her heart melt in her chest. “It seems we do, and I’m sorry that I forgot that for a minute.” She smiled up at him. “But I’m over it now.”

“I’m glad to hear it.” His smile grew bigger as he stepped toward her and put his hands on her hips, drawing her closer. “Even if we can’t keep our hands off each other, that doesn’t mean it’s the only thing we have going for us.”

She rolled up on her tiptoes to kiss him and shook her head without breaking away. “I know.”

She fumbled with the buttons on his shirt, even as he pulled her skirt up around her waist. As soon as she had all the buttonsunfastened, she pushed his shirt back off his shoulders. She had to smile when she saw his naked chest. It was perfect.

He chuckled as he looked down at her. “Like what you see?”

“More than like it, I want it.” She dropped her head and circled his nipple with her tongue.

She was rewarded with his sharp intake of breath, but then before she knew what was happening, he whirled her around and had her pressed up against the vanity. She met his gaze in the mirror, and he smiled as he pushed her skirt up around her waist.
