“All the more reason for him to want Don Colombo dealt with.”

“You’re saying I should take him out? You agreeing with me at last?”

“I’m saying that the meeting sounds like bullshit to me.”

“You think I’m walking into a trap?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I bet you ten bucks he isn’t even there when you turn up.”

“I’ll take that action.”

“You sure you can afford it? Shelling out for this place set you back a fair few bucks.”

“Chicken?”

“You die at the meeting, you don’t pay out. How’s that for chicken?”

“I won’t die. I’m about to get married.”

“I want it on record I think you’re taking a hell of a risk.”

Diego dumps himself back in his seat. “Hell of a risk with what?”

“Marrying Kelly Fletcher.”

“Holy shit, seriously? You going ahead with it?”

I look at Diego. “Something you want to say?”

His eyes fix on mine for a second, the two of us locking horns like cavemen. He looks away first. “No problem,” he says at last. “You know best.”

I turn back to Albert. “How’s the wedding prep coming?”

“It’ll be tomorrow evening but I’m still finalizing the venue. You need to decide what you’re going to do.”

“We’re going round in circles,” I say, leaning back in my chair, thinking out loud. “Far as I see it, I’ve got two choices. Kill Alessandro for what he did to Kelly’s family is one.”

“Don Colombo’s bound to start a war if you do,” Diego replies.

“Exactly. Which brings us to option two. Take out the Don.”

“Not easy to do.”

“You’ve set up the meeting with him. I just go in and shoot the guy.”

“What about his guards?”

“I’m not taking any. He’s not taking any. We’re meeting on trust.”

“You kill him and no one will trust you again.”

“Won’t matter. I’ll have taken over by then.”

“So you going to whack the Don? Bold move, even for you.”

“You don’t get anywhere by hiding in the shadows, Diego.”

“There’s another option,” he replies, stroking his chin. “You thought of getting your girl to do it?”
