“Sadly, she is my mate after all. I’d never truly harm her,” I voiced and leaned in close until our lips literally brushed. “Does this fucked-up side of me frighten you, mate?”
She swallowed what had to be a lump that formed in her throat while daring to shake her head.
“Don’t lie to me,” I hissed angrily even though I felt as though she wasn’t. That Fae instinct had come pretty handy the last few hours.
Especially when I held Roberto in my arms, knowing every single thing that left his lips was but the truth.
“You know I’m not lying,” she countered while her eyes pleaded with me. That look only made me tighten my grip around her neck.
She didn’t flinch as we stared at one another, and how I wished my heart didn’t clench in agony at the idea of truly hurting her.
Not simply because she was my mate, but because she looked like the woman I’d once loved.
With a grunt, I closed the distance and kissed her brutally. Her lips took every bit of my assault. Truthfully, I didn’t wish to be so harsh with her, and yet I needed an outlet in this clouded state of misery.
We were breathless when I released her lips. Her taste reminded me of something sweet like honey. I had to admit it turned me on that she was willing to take my brutality head-on, but I wasn’t going to push it.
Especially when she hadn’t given me permission to continue.
"You should rest,” I encouraged and let go of her neck. The faint lines of red from my fingers only confirmed I’d really tested her.
I was simply trying to push her away. Clearly, she isn’t a pushover in this form.
"You should be resting,” she countered as she watched me carefully.
“Me? Rest?” I chuckled at the amusing comment. “My father has perished at the hands of your twin sister. How should one rest and enter the land of dreams that are probably scarier than being awake in the land of the living?”
Ya. I was scared of the nightmares that would plague me tonight.
Dreams of Papa Dearest, of memories I’d clearly forgotten about until now, when it seemed like my duty to recall every interaction we’d ever had.
The more I focused on it, the more I recalled, and it left me wondering why I’d hated the man to such an extent. I could recall all the pain he’d inflicted on me — inexcusable pain — but was it because I was but a child to see all the hidden signs that revealed the hidden hero beneath his villainous exterior?
I spun around and tried to walk away, but Aura hugged me from behind, keeping me still as she clung to me for dear life.
“William, the less rest you get, the more lucid you’ll become, especially with all the alcohol you’ve consumed.”
“Says the girl who drank a whole damn bottle of whisky,” I countered and laughed like it was the funniest shit I’d witnessed.
Grief really makes you mad.
"I want to hear that from Amos,” I challenged.
“You and I know you don’t stand a chance facing me right now as Amos,” she muttered against my back, which made me chuckle.
"Being manhandled by your true self would be rather embarrassing,” I noted as I thought of my options.I didn’t give a hoot.“Guess I’ll see for myself.”
I pulled out of her hold only to crash into a fucking wall, which left me to blink a few times before glancing up and dramatically rolling my eyes.
“I swear to the Goddess up high. How the fuck did you get in here, Bulky Stalker of a Fucker?” I questioned Onyx, who simply stared at me in return.
I could sense his boiling anger because I’d shoved him out in all aspects just like the rest of them. I don’t know what voodoo juju Aura and Malachite had done to get in here, but everyone else?
I pushed away so they wouldn’t see such a pathetic side of myself.
"Giving me the silent treatment, hmm?” I offered and reached out to tug at his tie so he had no choice but to lean right into me as I gave him a threatening smirk. “Don’t love me anymore, mate?”
"You’re going to fucking kill yourself if you keep doing this shit,” Onyx grunted, which only made my smile further widen before he was the next victim of these lips.
