DISTRACTIONS AND WHISKY

The buzzing of my phone pulled me out of my thoughts.

I couldn’t grasp how long I’d been standing there since Mother’s departure and the dismissal of Klaus, but business wasn’t going to let me stay zoned out for long.

We have a week of Rapture to continue.

Walking back to the island, I leaned over to retrieve my phone and the magazine before heading to the other room where a small corner desk was placed to match the sophisticated vibe we were going for at this new place.

It was a shame we were going through so much shit so I wasn’t able to appreciate the beauty in helping design it, but this chaos was only temporary.

Soon, we’ll have time to do what we truly want instead of spending all our time reminding everyone who the fuck we are.

I pulled out the chair and slid onto its comfortable surface before my eyes caught onto the alcohol cart that was far too close to not be tempting.

The ring of my phone followed with the buzzing vibrations, leaving me to roll my eyes in annoyance.

“I deserve a fucking drink,” I muttered to myself before picking up the phone. “Moore speaking.”

“I think I found the jackpot.” I was surprised to hear Jayce on the other end.“Before you ask, I’m using this line instead of our private one on purpose.”

He admitted that into our connected bond which made me rise and head to the cart for my own sanity.

Who tapped my phone?

“If it makes you feel better, they just got through which is why I called,”Jayce replied in my head before continuing through the phone. “I know I’m wasting your valuable time while you enjoy the chaos Mr. Alexander ignited, but I think this is important.”

I sighed.

“Speak, Jayce,” I urged while clinking the whisky glass I’d picked up against the clear surface of the tray a little louder to emphasize my annoyance.

You still didn’t tell me who tapped my phone.

“I’ll get to that, promise,”he assured me. “I uncovered something about the Coven. I’m not sure how valid it is, but if it’s true, Roberto isn’t going to be very happy.”

“Why?” I asked while twisting the cap of the Glenmorangie Signet. The mere scent was appeasing me in dangerous ways.

“You remember when Willow tried to kill herself and brought up how she almost died after a business acquaintance of Roberto’s pushed her off a cliff?”

“I remember clearly.”

Why are you bringing this up when someone else is listening?

“Again, it’ll make sense, but let me lay my traps,”he reasoned. "Willow was in recovery for a long ass while, but the Coven had intervened, right?”

“Mhmm.” I began to fill my glass.

“What if the Coven secretly implanted magic incantations along Willow’s body during therapy so that if she ended up killing herself again, the incantations would ignite and revive her?”

I paused in my movement while my eyes stared at the stream of whisky that stopped before the glass was half full.

"That doesn’t sound like a bad thing,” I voiced, but my tone clearly expressed my disapproval.

“I agree with you,” Jayce admitted. “But Willow was underage back then. Ten or eleven. If they were going to place incantations on her with the intention of protecting her on the off chance she committed suicide, wouldn’t Roberto or Viktor, her bodyguard, be informed?”

Why the fuck did they put incantations on our Willow?

“I’ll tell you in a moment."How he was staying calm with this information was beyond me.
