OVERWHELMED AND WISHFUL HOPES

~MILO~

“You okay, Willow?”

It was Jayce who asked the prime question that certainly palpated through our minds as Ruby’s image faded from the spinning portal of flames, leaving us alone once more.

“I’m fine.”

That means she’s not fine…

“Would you be fine after getting to see your sister, finding out the runaway that is secretly created to acknowledge your royal status to a crowd of overpowered shifters is in a few short hours, and noticing how your sister and Alpha mate don’t like each other one fucking bit because she has an interesting complex and hates being intimidated or belittled which was why she acted the way she did with Arthur, who’s even more sensitive and a new member of our pack after being a captive for surely a good majority of his child, teen, and adulthood?”The way my wolf rambled that entire thing in one breath like it wasn’t a mind fuck of words left me speechless.“Ya. That’s what I thought.”

I’m still trying to process everything you said in your first statement.

“You’re disappointing me here, Milo.”

I mentally sighed, but I guessed after everything that had happened in what felt like two fucking weeks instead of two fucking days, it made sense why I was slipping.

A lot is going on, my friend.

“Indeed, but imagine how your queen is feeling.”

He was right.

Willow didn’t need to say a word for me to see the dangerous spike of her aura. That was an indication her mental stability wasn’t balanced in the slightest.

Jayce gave me a look before he moved to face Willow and very gently brushed a few stands behind her ear.

“You know if we need to talk or pause all of this, all you have to do is say the word,” he acknowledged as he pressed his palm against her cheek.

“I know.” Her voice was barely there, and I felt like she was trying to zone out in general.

I met Jayce’s worried gaze, which was why I decided I needed to interfere somehow.

“Let me take her for a walk before the killing spree,”I mentally communicated to him, knowing the chances that Dimitris would hear my declaration as well.“She’s gonna snap if we don’t talk about this here and now. I have a strong feeling once this runaway is done with, everything is going to be moving fast until the end of the year.”

The runway, the Rapture, making our unified stance as the Forbidden Pack, all before having to return Malika home.

That didn’t include her having to figure out what her responsibilities would be as a High Council disciple with Viktor as her Master and us dealing with the Coven once and for all. Add in Arthur coming into the pack with Loki still adjusting to this new dynamic, and I was sure our queen’s hands were going to be far too full.

Jayce nodded just slightly while Dimitris’s emotionless voice entered our minds specifically.

“Take her to the garden. Let her calm down a bit. Then meet me up front when she’s okay. If she wishes to sit this out, she can. We won’t further burden her with the sight of death.”

Understood, Alpha.

Dimitris’s energy was gone just like that, which was another sign that he was working on reeling in his pureblood traits.

I squeezed Willow’s hand, bringing her back from whatever spiraling thoughts she was having before I leaned in closer in hope my aura would wrap comfortably around hers, like a warm blanket that wished to shield her from the chilling storm ahead.

“We gotta do something real quick,” I suggested. “Alpha’s orders.”

I knew if I said it was an Alpha order, Willow wouldn’t try to refuse.

“Okay,” Willow replied and lightly squeezed my hand back.

Jayce didn’t hesitate to kiss Willow before he whispered, “I know there’s a lot going on, but we’re gonna get through it, yes?”
