“That part is still unclear,” I answered at last.

“And all this time, I thought the Patrol was evil for harassing passing ships. I did not know.”

“It’s not like they were advertising for the job,” I shot back.

“So how do we find them?”

“I don’t know, but I mean to find out.”

Adreax gave me a solemn look, but it was already decided. He and I had a new mission, and Herod would soon be on his way. Adreax left me and went to his friend, shaking his hand firmly.

“Where to next?” he asked.

Herod looked past us at the open skies and shrugged. “Wherever the money’s good, I suppose.”

He turned to look at Adreax and pulled him into a brotherly embrace. I couldn’t help but smile at the two of them being so affectionate.

“We’ll see you around, Herod. Don’t forget to call on us when you’re in the area.”

“Aye, and don’t you forget to call on me when you need help with one of these little raids of yours. I don’t want to do it full time, but I have to admit, kicking some Patrol ass felt pretty good.”

They both chuckled. Adreax returned to my side, took my hand, and we watched Herod climb aboard the Greedy She-Devil, waving one last time before pulling the hatch closed and starting his engines.
