Chapter One

Not Shy About Giving it to Me Straight

Royce

Aimee, thereceptionistforthe executive floor, gives me a wide smile. “Good morning, Mr. Grayson.”

I nod in greeting and continue to my office.

Aimee has been with the company for two years. She is efficient, dependable…

And the biggest flirt on this side of the Atlantic.

That’s why I don’t stop to chat. I don’t want to encourage her.

She calls my name. I turn, and Aimee is rightthere—in my face. Well… more like the bottom of my pecs. I have a good twelve inches on her.

“Mr. Grayson would like to see you at his penthouse tomorrow. Your calendar says you’re free… on a Saturday.” Her pink lips tilt in a seductive smile as she looks up at me from beneath her lashes.

I take a step back. “Thank you.”

Aimee tucks a lock of red hair behind her ear. “What do you think of my new haircut, Mr. Grayson?”

It is in the style that a lot of women are sporting nowadays.

“Um…”

Amy pouts. “I guess I shouldn’t have said anything in case you noticed on your own.”

That’s not all she wants me to notice. Aimee drops subtle hints from time to time that she wouldn’t mind hooking up.

I ignore her and try not to let her flirting get to me. Aimee is an outstanding employee who does her job well. She comes in early, stays late, and is always willing to help. That’s why she still has her job.

However, should she make anyone feel uncomfortable, I won’t hesitate to let her go.

“I heard the fundraiser for the Grayson Foundation went well. You must be very pleased.”

I’m the acting CEO of the Grayson Group, one of the largest security companies in the world. I’m also in charge of our many charities, which I run under the Grayson Foundation.

I started with the foundation when I turned eighteen. Ten years later, it has grown from handing out a few checks during Christmas to a network of safe houses, community resources, and job placement agencies throughout the country.

“Yes. I am pleased. Proud in fact,” I say, more to myself than to Aimee.

Aimee places her small hands on her tiny hips and lifts her lips in a flirty smile. “Have a great day, Mr. Grayson. Let me know if you need anything from me. Anything at all.”

It’s late afternoon when Thomas strides into my office without knocking. By the looks of him, he came to work straight from a night of debauchery. His usual pristine suit is so rumpled, it looks like he slept in an alley and got rolled for his change.

If I had to guess, I’d say my cousin lives to rebel against the restrictions he had placed on him by his overbearing father and hismy-shit-doesn’t-stinkmother. Not that they see him. With the bad blood between my grandfather and Thomas’s father, his parents won’t leave Florida unless there is a funeral or a marriage.

And since their only child fucks anything that moves, I doubt they’ll ever have the pleasure of attending his wedding.

Thomas plants his ass in a chair across from my desk, then pointedly glances at his watch as if to sayhurry-the-hell-up.

I don’t react to his rudeness. I continue my telephone conversation as if my cousin didn’t barge into my office uninvited.

“Yes, Sharon. You heard correctly. The Grayson Foundation raised over a million dollars for the New Day Shelter. The money will reach the account by the end of the week.”

“Thank you, Mr. Grayson,” Sharon gushes over the line. “I appreciate your hard work. Everyone here does. We will finally be able to upgrade our computer system and the thousands of other things we’ve been putting off.
