Interconnected

Royce

Sheturnstofindme still sitting on the couch, my palms open and my fingers curled as if her hands had never withdrawn from mine. The warmth I felt when I held them is all but gone. Coldness has replaced it. The same coldness I see in her eyes and detect in her voice.

“Royce, did you hear me? I want you gone.”

I don’t know what to say. What to do. I’ve never had to appease anyone but Gramps. How do I sway this woman, this wonderful creature, from kicking me out of her life?

Then I think of how Sin and I connected. Throughwhowe connected.

Matt.

That fucktard’s treatment of Sin, him leaving her at the altar, embarrassing Sin in front of her family and her friends, broke her trust. I did the same by believing in a video instead of the person right before my eyes.

I drop my gaze from hers and stare at the floor, clasping my hands. “I just want to tell you something, Sin. And if you want to kick me out after that, I’ll go, and not bother you again.”

I don’t look up, even as the seconds tick by and a ball of sweat rolls down my back. I stay as still as a statue, waiting for my fate.

Finally, she says. “All right, I’m listening.”

I breathe a sigh of relief; thankful she didn’t tell me to get the fuck out. I would have if she’d asked. I love her enough to give her up, if that’s what she truly wants.

Since she seems amiable to hear me out, I try to get her back.

“The proof I told you about are pictures and videos of you and Thomas getting…cozy. Stupid of me to believe them, and I promise to make that up to you, if you let me.”

“Someone sent pictures?”

“Yes, and I know who sent them. It was someone from STS.”

Sin’s eyes go round with horror.

“On Monday, Thomas and I will fire that person and let our lawyers loose. We have good cause because the perpetrator used company property to defame and demoralize a colleague. I think you should know the person has uploaded the pics and videos to the company server.” At her startled look, I hasten to reassure her. “Don’t worry, Sin. We have removed everything, including that person’s login credentials.”

“It was Luke, wasn’t it?” says Sin, still holding firm in her position by the door. “He sent you the pictures.” She frowns. “I figured you had to have some sort of evidence because you said you had proof, but I was so angry, I didn’t care...” She stops herself to throw a glare my way.

Yeah, Sin hasn’t gotten overallher anger. I know the miracle of her doing so will be bestowed on me (or not) at the end of our talk.

“How in the hell did he get a video?” she asks, moving a few steps away from the front door.

Closer to me.

“First off, it wasn’t Luke, but Melinda, Mr. Brown’s secretary. She is close friends with Joyce and Char.”

I can tell Sin hasn’t a clue who I’m talking about by the way her brow scrunches.

“Melinda, Iknowher, but who are Char and Joyce?”

“Char is the woman who acted like she owned me at Paradies, and Joyce is Shane’s girlfriend.”

“Melinda,” Sin repeats as if she just can’t believe her colleague’s treachery. “She’s been with the company forever. We weren’t friends or anything, but we got along all right.”

“Not by her account. Melinda had sent some pretty nasty emails to her friends about you and Natalie. It seems she was jealous of your positions in the company. Also, my interaction with Char and the fact that you’re my girlfriend, didn’t help matters much.”

Sin’s brown eyes grow big and round. “I’m your...what did you call me?”

I wave her off. “You heard me, Sin, but I’m not done. Let’s stay on topic.”
