Enough is enough!

“Hey, thanks for listening. I feel much better.”Now that I know what I have to do.“I’ll let y’all go, and we’ll talk on the weekend.”

“Okay, sweetie. You call us anytime, day or night.”

“I will, Mom. I will.”

“Goodbye, Genesis. Don’t let anyone bring you down, okay. You are strong. You can handle anything,” Dad says in a gruff tone.

“You’re right about that, Dad,” I say, feeling my spine straighten. “Thanks for teaching me to stand up for myself.”

And now, I’m going to find Royce big boss Grayson and tell him off, because...

Be honest. You are mad as hell because he gave up on you.

Shut up, stupid mind!

I’m about to grab the handle and swing the door back when I hear a knock.

“Ms. Turner, are you in there?”

What the hell does he want?I ask myself even as the butterflies swirling in my stomach make me feel lighter than air.

I open the door to meet him outside. He walks me backward, further into the restroom as the door swings shut.

His jaw clenches as his eyes roam over my face. “Have you been crying?”

“So, what if I have?” I’m on the defensive right away. Angry at myself for wanting him to do exactly what he is doing.

Showing he cares.

“I saw what happened at the meeting. I’m sorry—“

“What do you want, Mr. Grayson?”

His wounded look shouldn’t tear at my heart, but it does. And I hate that it does.

He straightens as if I’ve slapped him into that position and his eyes narrow under his heavy lids. “I wanted to see if you were okay.”

My heart drops at missing him so much. I ache to touch him. To have him hold me like he’d done at the hotel. That’s a fantasy I shouldn’t indulge in, so I lift my hands, palms out, and give him a little twirl. “I’m fine, so if you will excuse me.” I move to brush past him.

He grabs me by the arms, an HR violation if there ever was one. But hey, I ain’t mad.

“Why are you acting like this?” His tone is sweeter than honey in Earl Grey tea. And if that weren’t bad enough, he glides his thumbs up and down the bare flesh of my arms, making them pebble like a pickle.

“Like what?” I whisper huskily, arching my body into his even as I curse myself for caving.

He lowers his face, his lips a kiss away from mine. “Like you’ve missed me as much as I’ve missed you.” He moves closer. I close my eyes and tilt my head...

“But we both know it’s a lie.”

Royce drops his hands from around my arms and steps back, running a hand through his hair. I’m still blinking in shock at his abrupt change in demeanor when he nods in a way so resigned, I know he has shelved and locked away whatever was left of us in his mind.

He opens the door and doesn’t look at me as he says, “After you.”

I don’t question what just happened. I’m too embarrassed that I almost gave into his charm once more. Instead, I slither past him…

Only to run into Luke Dukate coming from the men’s restroom.
