Pru started to unfasten the buttons of his shirt, and he didn’t fight her. He helped her by gripping her shirt and tearing it open. The buttons keeping her away from him pinged in all directions but he didn’t care.

The moment they were almost naked, he pulled her close, feeling her nakedness against his own. He closed his eyes, basking in the feel of her. “I’ve missed you so much.”

“It hasn’t been all that long since we were together,” she said.

“It feels like a lifetime.” He kissed her lips and slowly began to trail kisses down her body.

They got their shirts off and he took care of her bra. They were both completely naked in his uncle’s rundown house and Drake kissed her hard. She whimpered and he had to stop.

“Wait,” he said, and he couldn’t believe he’d put a stop to their makeout session.

“What is it?” she asked. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. More than fine, but are you?”

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“What is this?” What the hell are you doing? You’ve got the girl and you’re kissing her. There could be a solution to all your problems.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“You’re kissing me back.”

“Don’t you want me to kiss you back?”

“Yes.”

“Drake, I’m really confused. You want me to kiss you but you want to stop kissing?”

“I do want to keep on kissing.” He ran his fingers through his hair. “Unless this is goodbye.”

“Why would it be goodbye?” she asked. “That doesn’t make any sense.”

“Look at what we’ve had to live through so far. Tell me this isn’t goodbye?”

“It’s not goodbye.”

“You’re not lying.”

“I hate to say this, Drake, but you’re really sounding like a girl.” She stepped toward him, cupping his face. “Look at me. I’m naked. I’m here with you. I think I’ve found a way for us to be together and I’m not going anywhere. This isn’t a goodbye kiss. I’m making out with my boyfriend. Is that a little hard for you to believe?”

He stroked her cheek. “Yeah, it is. Not your reasons behind it, but after everything we’ve gone through so far, it’s hard for me. I’ve missed you, and spending any time away from you kills me.”

“I hated being away from you as well. I hate your parents and your brother. It’s hard to know what to call them.” She giggled. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t laugh.”

“I’m right there with you.”

“I don’t know if this will be our last time together. I don’t know what the future is going to be like for us. I don’t even know if we’ve found a solution. It could all be crap, but I do know that I want this. That I want you. I’m not kissing you and I’m not about to sleep with you because I’m going to leave. I’m here because I want to be here. There’s no one else I could ever want to be with. I know it’s hard for you to see the truth here, but it is. I don’t want that money. I don’t want anything but you. I’m sorry my parents took the money, but I’m not them. I’m my own person.”

He’d heard enough. Kissing her hard, he silenced all of her reasons, no longer needing them. He believed her, trusted her, and there had never been a single reason to doubt her.

He’d opened up his jacket and spread it on the floor. Taking her down to it, he broke the kiss. “I should be doing this on a real bed. In a good house.”

“Drake, there’s nothing wrong with this house. It just needs a little loving and it’ll be good as new. I can help you, if you’d like.”

“This is what I love about you. Nothing is ever too much for you. You’re always willing to be with me.”

“I bet this was something out five-year-old selves couldn’t imagine, right? You and me, dating, falling in love, finding ways against all the odds to be together.”

“Damn, to think how much I hated you.” He smiled down at her. “I can tell you I don’t hate you. Far from it.”

“I don’t hate you either. I didn’t hate you back then, but I’ve got to know, why did you push me away every single chance you got?” she asked. “I don’t get it.”

“I … I don’t know. You were new and I think you were happy. It seems like a lifetime ago.”

“It wasn’t so long ago for either of us.” She touched his cheek. “Why was my being happy a problem for you? I was never mean to you. In fact, I always tried to be nice to you.”

“I know. I hated you for that. Nothing I did ever affected you, not really. You always rose above it. Then of course, you fought back, and it made me mad you would do something like that.”
