FIVE MONTHS LATER

“Why the hell is your husband watching us from the parking lot?” August says, clutching onto his books. “Can’t he just come over here and say hello?”

I bite down on my bottom lip and glance up at my best friend. “It’s a thing we do.”

“Oh my god. Don’t tell me. You are both so damn weird.”

I giggle at that and then lean against his car. “So…you gonna tell me how you’re doing?”

August clears his throat and shoves his books into the backseat of his car. “I’m fine.”

“August, you were stuck in your car with Emery for days. In a snowstorm. And you’refine?”

“Yeah.”

“You hate each other.”

He shifts on his feet, the tips of his ear pink. “We managed.”

I roll my eyes and throw up my hands. “Fine, you tell me when you’re ready, okay? Because I don’t buy it. This is all too weird to be true.”

August side hugs me and then pushes me gently away.

“Go to your man. He’s looming.”

I sigh and make my way across the campus to where Sem stands. His long-sleeved shirt strains against his muscular chest and arms, his pants slung low on his narrow hips. His left hand taps against his bicep and I make out the silver ring sitting on his finger.

God, I love seeing that there.

“Hello, big man,” I say, setting my bag down and hopping into his arms.

He pulls me into him and breathes against my neck.

“How long were you watching me?” I ask, leaning back and staring into his blue eyes.

“Long enough.”

“You have a good day?” I ask, threading my fingers through his hair.

“Better now,” he mutters and leans in for a kiss. Our mouths meet and I open for him, our tongues tangling. This has never gotten old. Not once have I ever regretted my decision to take back what I wanted.

And no one seemed to think we were crazy to do it either. His family cheered us on. My family…well, I’ll let them know about Sem eventually.

When I feel like it.

August was the only one who had minor reservations. We hadn’t known each other long and it was rushed. But when you know, you know.

And with Sem, I just know this is right.

I moan into his mouth, and he tilts his head to plunder deeper. Someone catcalls and we rip apart, breathing heavily.

“Okay, enough of that,” I pant. “We should probably get home. I’m horny and I have work to do before bed. Miles to go, Sem. Miles to go.”

He leans down and grabs onto my satchel and throws it over his shoulder as he walks me across the parking lot to his truck. He sets me inside and I scoot to the middle. It’s where I belong. Next to him.

And when he starts the engine, he tucks me into his side and drives us home.
