For purely educational reasons.

“Do I need to tell you who invited me?” he asks, those deep blue eyes squinting as he watches me.

“Yes. Yes, you do.”

“Nah, I don’t,” he says, and I want to wrap my hands around that thick neck and squeeze. I doubt I’d be able to span its circumference, but I’d sure as hell try. I’m nothing if not an overachiever.

He folds those thick arms of his across his chest and steps slightly closer to me. My back hits the wall, and the table wobbles underneath me. His hands dart out to grip my arms, steadying me. The contact burns my exposed skin and I swat his hands away.

“Careful,” he grumbles.

“I’m fine. Just don’t…don’t crowd me. I’m here with friends, and I don’t need you scaring people away from me.”

He fiddles with the edge of my shirt sleeve and I glower at him.

“Hands to yourself.”

“Your shirt is pink.”

“Duh.”

“And short.”

“Your eyesight is intact. Good to know. Now go away, Sem. I’m serious. Or else, I’m going to have to call your mother and tell her that you’re doing it again.”

Sem’s jaw tightens at that, and he takes a step back.

“Why you talking to my ma?”

“Because Sem, your mother gave me her number when you startedstalkingme.”

“I don’t stalk.”

“Oh, then what would you call this?”

Sem shrugs. “We happen to be at the same party. Big fucking deal. I’m not here for you anyway,” he says, pulling that blond hair back into a loose ponytail. A wayward strand falls across his temple, and he tucks it behind his ear. He shoves his hands into the pockets of his worn jeans, and he lifts an eyebrow at me, causing me to bristle.

“Oh, is that right?” I scoff. “And who are you here for, if it’s not me?”

Sem nods to the right, and I glance over but don’t see anyone, in particular, waiting for him. Though there is still a gaggle of girls watching him talk to me.

“You’re such a liar,” I reply. “And a bad one at that.”

“Don’t be pissed that I’m not as obsessed with you as you think.”

I roll my eyes to the ceiling and sigh. “You’re obviously obsessed withme. You’re everywhere I am.”

“Nah, you just happen to be everywhereI am.”

Okay, this conversation is getting me nowhere. If I continue like this, I’ll be here all night. I’m turning into one of my kindergartners. I hop down from the table and wave my hand in front of me.

“Shoo. Back to your cave,” I hiss, and Sem works his jaw back and forth before moving back to the other side of the room. Even though I can’t see him anymore, I can feel his eyes on me.

Asshole.

“There you are!” a familiar voice says to my right, and I jump slightly, dramatically placing a hand over my chest.

“August! Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you for ages.”
