Emery:I made dinner and didn’t burn the house down.

Emery:Those new pans you bought me are amazing. When you said they’re fireproof you weren’t kidding.

Me:Just for you, Em.

Me:And I’ll be home in about fifteen minutes

Emery:Oh, don’t forget our parents are coming over too. So might want to play it cool.

Emery:Like don’t walk in naked with your dick out.

Me:Noted.

Emery:Can’t wait to see you

When I arrive home, I look around, seeing the small changes that occupy our space. Emery has slowly made himself at home here and I fucking love that he feels comfortable enough to really move in. A few sticky notes are slapped onto the walls, mostly written by Emery, but a few by me, reminding him of things that need to be done around the house or his appointments.

I glance down at the plastic bag hanging around my wrist. Inside are two keyless locks that I picked up today and plan on installing on both the doors because Emery keeps misplacing his keys. He’s going to be excited when he sees I’ve done this for him.

Fuck if I don’t like making him smile.

My eyes land on the two small throw pillows on the couch with embroidered quotes on them. Two days ago, they came in the mail. Emery sheepishly pulled them from the box.

“If you hate them, I can’t return them,” he’d said. “You’re stuck with them, like you’re stuck with me.”

I’d grabbed them gently from his hand and placed them right on the couch.

“Hey, Em,” I greet, moving into the kitchen and seeing him on both his phone and iPad while he stirs something in a pot.

“They’re not here yet,” he says, looking over at me and I raise an eyebrow at him.

“Multi-tasking? What a shock,” I ask, and he smirks, a lollipop sticking out of his mouth.

“I’m getting better at it,” he says, and I look over and see a half-folded pile of laundry on the kitchen table. I move toward it and start folding it.

“I’m a work in progress,” he says and wraps his arms around me.

“How was class?” he asks softly.

“Long,” I mutter and press my mouth to the corner of his. “Glad to be home though.”

“Yeah,” he says and then pulls the candy from his mouth and eyes me, head to toe. “God, I don’t even want to pretend right now. I just want to fuck you, but we can’t because they’re almost here. I can’t even get in a quickie.”

He eyes the dinner miserably and I chuckle.

“Em, you’re ridiculous. You can make it a few hours.”

“Maybe,” he says as he grabs down four plates. “You hungry? Because I made a feast.”

I eye the pasta dish, the salad, and see some bread cut up in a bowl.

“You’re amazing,” I say and Emery flushes. Then he turns off the stove and moves toward me, kissing me softly.

“I did forget an ingredient, but I hope it still tastes good.”

“I’m sure it will be fine,” I reply and then glance at the kitchen table.

“We better clear this so we have somewhere to eat,” I say and he nods, helping me fold the rest of the clothes and moving it to the bedroom, right before my mom and Thomas walk in.
