“Oh, its fine. I don’t eat a lot of other food, so as long as I take my insulin and only eat small amounts at a time, my blood sugar stays pretty stable.”

“Ok. But how do you not have cavities?”

“Oh, I do. I have all the cavities, but I love candy. Almost as much as sex. Now candy and sex…mix those together,” I kiss the tips of my fingers and smirk at August.

My mind suddenly conjures up August wearing a Fruit Roll Up pair of undies, and I have to hop out of the car because what the hell is wrong with me? I shouldn’t be thinking about that. I mean, I have been thinking about that, which is why I’m as hard as fuck down there.

I know that the possibility of us doing anything else is nearly impossible because August doesn’t seem into guys, and he certainly isn’t into me, but damn, my brainwon’t let it go.

Apparently, I have obsessive tendencies too. Like adding a deranged cherry to top off the shit sundae that is my life.

I jog around the rest stop five times, and when I make it back to the still, very clean SUV, I’m shivering. I hop inside and crank up the heat.

“I take it you’re cold,” August says, sipping some of his water. “Probably should put on something more…substantial.”

He takes in my torn jeans and worn tee and frowns.

“Astute. Forget elementary education. CIA, here you come,” I snark and then watch as August peels his hoodie off, his t-shirt riding up his toned stomach, and then hands it to me.

Holy fuck. Now I’m going to smell him on me. It’s bad enough that I know how he tastes. This is dangerous.

I stare at the heap of fabric in my lap and pretend to reluctantly pull it on. Like,oh shit, this is such a chore, when in reality I’m swooning and searching for a fainting couch.

Then I turn my body away from him so I can sniff deeply without him seeing. My nose whistles loudly though, and I curse my bad luck.

“You smelling it?” he asks.

I stay facing away because, yeah, I’m fucking blushing. “You wish.”

“You were smelling my hoodie. I heard you. An elephant is quieter than you. Your nose practically trumpeted with that inhale.”

“What the fuck ever. I was smelling it only because I couldn’t figure out what that bad smell was. And why are you giving me your clothes? Huh. Thought you hated me.”

“Meh. I’m not sure how I feel about you, but I know giving you my hoodie was the right thing to do,” he says.

“Oh, fuck off. You’re such a self-righteous asshole.Saint August. Should I make a rosary for you now?”

He huffs. “I’m not a saint.”

“I thought you were right up there until now, but now that I know how you kiss….”

His eyebrows rise. “And how do I kiss?”

“Like a well-paid whore.”

He flushes and turns away. He’s throwing the car in gear and backing out of the parking spot when my brain clicks on, suddenly remembering.

“Wait. Wasn’t I supposed to drive?” I ask as he puts the car in drive but continues to just idle right where we are.

“Thomas just texted me and told me what happened to your last car, since you wouldn’t say.”

“He did not,” I gasp. “He was sworn to secrecy. That motherfucker does not know how to be a dad.”

“Well, he told me because I can be very persuasive. So maybe I’ll drive for a bit longer. Don’t want you rolling us right off the road and into a ditch.”

“Oh, shut up. My candy rolled off the seat, okay? I was collecting it when I lost control.”

“Thatis why you crashed the car? Because of wayward M&M’s?”
