His hazel eyes meet mine, and his fingers grip against my ass.

“Nah, Eli. You’re the one always bringing me to my knees.”

My heart flutters and I smash my mouth back onto his as he rams up into me.

When we’re finally done, Luke reaches for some soap and half-heartedly washes me. I just sink into him, my head against his shoulder.

I could die happy right now.

When we finally move from the shower, Luke towels me off, but it’s interrupted by me pressing kisses to his mouth.

He chuckles as I chase after his lips.

“Stay with me today,” I mutter. “All day. Let’s do this again and again.”

“Eli,” he says, licking into my mouth. “I have to go home. My ma was worried.”

“Oh, of course,” I say, disappointment surging through me.

Luke eyes me, and his thumb brushes over my bottom lip. “Come with me.”

“I have to check my calendar,” I reply, but I’m already walking into our room to pack. “Will we be staying the night?”

Luke smirks. “Thought you had to check your schedule?”

I look at him over my shoulder and then move back toward him, my hands attaching themselves to his chest and running up his neck.

“Don’t listen to me. I go where you go from now on. I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”

CHAPTERFOURTEEN

LUKE

Elliot is insatiable. It’s like an emotional dam broke, and now he can’t keep his hands off of me. Hence, the reason he suddenly pulled off the freeway. Then he tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, almost like he was debating something, before he groaned and crawled right over the console, straddling my lap.

His hands are currently in my hair, his hips grinding against mine.

Not that I’m complaining. I like this unhinged, untethered side of him. It makes me just want him more.

If that’s even possible.

The past two weeks were fucking misery. I worked myself to the bone to stay away from him. My brother was worried about me and even drove out to the pipeline to make sure I was taking care of myself, that I was eating and such, but mostly just checking that I was still alive.

Nah, I was alive. I justfelta little dead inside.

Then the explosion happened. I’d been on break, napping in my car when I felt it––the rumble, the heat, and the shouts of panic.

Fuck, in that moment, I felt like I’d been given a second chance, because that could have been me down there.

It’s why I came back to him. I wasn’t ready to leave this life without fighting for something I truly want. Ever since that moment, I feel like my heart has completely reset. Everything seems…brighter and better, especially now that I have Elliot.

Although, fuck, we really should talk. We need to communicate better and come to an agreement about what this is, but it’s so hard to think when his mouth is on mine.

“Let’s just get a hotel,” he says as he bites down on my earlobe, and hell, I’m tempted to spend the day in his arms under the blankets. But we’re an hour out from my parents’ place, and my ma and older brother have been texting me, waiting for my arrival. I can’t put this off.

If I don’t show up, they’ll track me down.

When they’d heard about the pipeline accident, they were frantic. I need to show up so they can see that I’m okay. Plus, it’s been a while since I’ve been out there, and I miss them. Just like it is for Elliot, my family is everything to me.
