But Finn interrupts me, “The couch is made up for you. I didn’t make up a place for him though. Guess he can sleep on the floor.”

Finn gestures toward Theo who is shifting awkwardly on his feet next to me.

“Don’t worry about us. We’ll make it work,” I mutter and Finn scoffs.

“Do better, Logan. Your brother deserves the best parts of you,” he says and then turns on his heels and disappears into the small bedroom. The door shuts with a click and Theo eyes me.

“You didn’t tell me Finn was going to be here,” he says.

I huff in exasperation. “Yeah, well, he is. Surprise.”

Great, now Theo’s mad at me too. I don’t blame him honestly. I’m feeling a little sorry for myself at the moment. Now I feel guiltyandI’ve disappointed everyone.

Theo fiddles with the pencil behind his ear and then sighs. “It’s too late to do anything about it now. We should probably just go to sleep. It’s been a long day.”

I just nod because when I open my mouth, I end up in trouble. “I’ll take the floor. You can have the couch.”

“There’s no need. We can share it,” he says, and I eye the small pull-out mattress. We’d have to sleep really close to one another. My heart rate kicks up a notch.

“Fine,” I say, trying to sound nonchalant and not overly eager.

I pull my shirt off over my head before Theo can change his mind and then I’m kicking off my pants.

Theo just stands frozen, watching me, his Adam’s apple bobbing in his throat.

“Go on. Get undressed,” I say and flop down on the bed. It squeaks and moans under my weight and I put my hand up behind my head, watching as Theo eyes me warily.

“Come on. Hurry up. We don’t have all night.”

I mean, we technically do. Nothing is stopping him from just hovering in the corner like a barn owl until morning, but I’d rather he lie down next to me.

Theo glances around the room and then fiddles with the bottom of his shirt. “Are you sure?”

“I’m so fucking sure,” I say and Theo swallows before lowering himself down onto the mattress facing away from me. He’s so close to the edge that I worry he’s going to fall off.

“Don’t be scared,” I mutter. “You can get a little closer.”

Theo sighs and turns onto his back, then starts slowly sliding toward me. It doesn’t look intentional though. My weight is probably propelling him downhill. I snicker as his body presses against mine and he huffs.

“Damn you,” he mutters, trying to scoot back to his side, but failing miserably. “You literally tilt the whole bed. You’re a behemoth.”

“I’m an athlete with sexy muscles.”

“You have your own gravitational pull.”

The bed shakes with my chuckle and I swear I can feel him smile.

“I won’t be able to stay on my side of the bed,” he grumbles.

“Don’t worry about it,” I say. “We can cuddle.” I slowly inch my hand over and lay it on top of his. The connection feels electric and my fingers tingle as I stroke my thumb over his palm.

I feel his body tense up and then the silence pulses between us. I turn my head to look at him and can just barely make out his features from the porch light filtering in from the window. He’s looking at me too. We’re inches away and it’s a stare-down now. I glance at his mouth and his tongue peeks out, wetting his lips.

Oh, sweet Jesus. That mouth.

“Theo,” I whisper, and he scoots a little closer. His breath puffs against my mouth and I feel myself start to pant. It’s been too long since he’s kissed me, since he’s touched me, and I crave it.

“This is a mistake,” he whispers, and every nerve ending in my body is a livewire as he draws closer.
