Page 16 of Loving Rush

"Me, boyfriend?" The rose darkened, delectable against cream.

What would she taste like?I thought before grinding my teeth together.

"Someone sure wants to get hold of you." I nodded down to her phone. It was almost dancing off the table with notifications. A sharp pang of what I can only describe as jealousy stabbed my stomach.

"Oh, no. Uh."

Could her blush get any deeper?I thought, and then at the thought of the word, deeper, I squelched down a groan.

"That's my mom. She's wondering where I am."

The relief that washed through me was palpable, which was insanity. I'd heard of manifesting your desires, but it'd never worked for me before. Yet, there she was. The woman I'd been waiting for. It felt ridiculous, and I wanted to doubt, but I couldn't.

"She just wants an update," Lux added and squirmed, uncomfortable in her chair.

"On?" I met her gaze, noticing that little shadow of pain flicker in the depth of her eyes again.

"Nothing. Just a silly checkup. It's all good. She overreacts about everything, though."

I sensed her lie but didn't focus on that. "You still live with her?" I hadn't even asked her age. Holy shit. What if I was out on a date with a fucking minor?

The waitress hadn't asked for our IDs. For all I knew, Lux might be fifteen. Sixteen. I groaned. Stole a glance at her, looking for clues.

"Yeah." Her lips flattened in a line. "You think I'm pathetic for still living at home, don't you?" She made a face like she was disappointed in herself.

"No. Hell no." I swallowed. "It's hard out there to get started. If my Gran hadn't died, I'd probably still be in my folks' pool house."

She snorted a laugh, the serious line between her eyes erasing. "A pool house, huh?"

"And I'm twenty-seven, which would make it even worse," I added, carefully watching her reaction. If she were underage, she would think I was way too old.

Thankfully, her lips curved with an almost satisfied small smile. "Only five years older than me. I think that's acceptable."

"Acceptable for what," I goaded as relief rushed through my veins.

"You know, for our next bike ride." The brilliant stain on her cheeks made her eyes sparkle.

"Ah, that, but that doesn't include me taking you back to the hospital, right?"

Her head tilted. "No, unless that's what you want."

I retook her hand, squeezing her fingers tight in mine. "That is not what I want at all. Now give me your phone, so we can swap digits."

Her little giggle ran through me as she slid me her phone with her free hand.

I typed in my number and then hit dial.

We both listened to the ring from my jacket pocket.

"Shall I get the check?" I didn't want to go, but it is evident from the many messages and texts that her mom needed to speak with her.

She gave a nod. "Okay." Her pouty lips turned down with disappointment.

My heart boomed hard in my chest. Damn, I was so going to make love to this woman.

The waitress came over and took my card.

After paying and leaving a tip, we went back out to my bike. No one could fault me for taking the long way back to the hospital. Her legs pressed against me. Her core at my ass. Arms tight around my waist while her face was pressed into my back. I was enjoying myself, and Lux seemed to be as well.
