He climbed off and helped me to stand. “You need to eat, lover.” He chuckled, but I saw the worry in his expression.

“I am hungry. You know how to work a woman out.” I went to the bathroom and cleaned up. Rush joined me. Then we went out to the food. It was a little cold, but I didn’t care. It still tasted amazing. Though I didn’t want to admit it, it also felt like I had a fever. But I brushed it away, telling myself it was just a side-effect of our lovemaking.

“I’m so glad you wanted chocolate that day,” Rush said, interrupting my thoughts. He held out a bite of chocolate cake.

I was so full, but I couldn’t pass up the cake and took it in my mouth. He watched as I chewed and swallowed. I smiled. “Me too, Rush. I didn’t know what living was until I met you.”

“Same.” He tilted his head to one side. “You are still a little flushed. You feeling okay?”

“Yeah. Just tired. Nothing a good night’s rest won’t take care of.”

“Alright, then let’s get your ass to sleep. We have another long drive.”

* * *

I slept soundlyin Rush’s arms. When I woke, I was surprised it was already eight in the morning. We dressed, ate, checked out, and got on the road. The ride seemed to go quicker than it had yesterday.

As we blew through towns, Key West getting closer, I was sure he drove a little faster. We’d booked into a hotel in Key West for the night so we could spend the following day trying to find out what we could about the mysterious house.

Key West was unlike anything I’d ever seen. The sea shore was a pristine azure blue. Beautiful houses overlooked the vista. The further we rode, the more I relaxed into what a vacation must surely feel like.

“This is stunning,” I shouted at one point.

He let go of one side of the handlebars to squeeze my knee. My hair streamed out behind me, the sun beating down onto my leather-clad legs. Hours later, we arrived and pulled up outside a hotel lined with palm trees. I removed my pink helmet, desperate to feel the sun on my face. Instead, I felt Rush’s lips as he grabbed me and planted a kiss on my mouth.

“Food?” he asked after several lovely minutes.

I arched an eyebrow. I knew what I wanted, and it did not involve food. “Food and then fun?”

He laughed and grabbed our bags as I practically ran for the check-in desk.

TWENTY-EIGHT

Margarita Salt

RUSH

She wanted food and “alcoholic beverages.”After settling into our hotel room, we found a liquor store. Lux requested tequila, and I wanted to make that happen for her. Despite a nagging feeling in my guts that told me something was going on with Lux, I dismissed it, thinking we just didn’t know each other well yet. What I did know was that she loved me! She wanted me! Me! That was so beyond thrilling, and I would do anything she asked if it was within my power.

We picked up some limes and margarita salt from a little grocery store before returning to the room. Then ordered some food. While we waited for it to be delivered, I made some shots.

“You sure you want to do this?” I asked, unable to help the smile pushing up my lips. The woman was so fucking cute in the best way. She had the salt on her hand near her thumb while holding a slice of lime. In the other was a glass containing a small amount of tequila.

“Hell yeah,” she said, sniffing it.

When she winced, I laughed. “You don’t have to,” I added.

She rolled her eyes playfully. “So I lick the salt, then drink, then put the lime in my teeth, right?”

“Like this,” I said and showed her with my own. It was excellent but potent, and I shook my head.

“How’s it taste?” she asked, licking her lips.

“Like strong fucking alcohol,” I admitted after removing the lime. “But also tasty.” I puckered my lips. “Go for it.”

She sucked in a big breath. Copied me. Her eyes were wide. “It burns,” she said, waving the hand holding the lime in front of her mouth.

“Put the lime between your teeth. It helps.” I worked to keep my face expressionless, but a laugh kept gurgling to the surface. She brought out the happiness in me.
